its too bad NHL are so greedy they won,t let players play that are eligible to play because if Canada had all eligible players that could have played Canada would have won Gold hands down

Having all eligible players certainly didn't help Canada in 2013, when they failed to even medal.

Team Canada 2017 could have 3 or 4 Québec defensemen in their line-up, which probably would be the highest ever. And seeing how poorly the OHL and WHL dmen did this year, hopefully they will give the Q dmen a chance next year.

I'm sure it did help Canada. Remove Nugent-Hopkins, Huberdeau and Hamilton and that team is significantly worse. Without them it almost certainly would have been worse.

Dermott is too old. And Im pretty sure Marner will play in the tourny next year. Unless he catches on fire early and pulls some kind of calder calibre start in the NHL, he'll play in the WJC.

I remember years ago when the Q used to turn out great goalies

Now the Q are starting to turn out good defense( which is good thing)

Why cant the chl turn out goalies anymore?

We are behind russia usa sweden finland

Is it because the quality of shots faced in the chl weak?

I mean if each chl team has 1-2 great scoring lines that means 25-50% of the shots are quality shots?

That is very simplistic way of looking at it

But why cant we produce quality goaltending?

I mean, in order for a canadian goalie to be good in the wjc he would need to be fantastic at the chl level, you see where im coming from

Who do we have coming in the pipeline? I mean who is currently great at the chl level? Its not good enought to be good


Price and holtby are the only ones that are in the elite ( i dont beleive crawford is elite or luongo)
These are to few in between

If we had steady goltending we would have won against finland as 3 goals were extremly weak

this is what is killing HC for last 6 of 7 years

They can and they are, the immense pressure as a teenager is insane though, you're 19 and realize pretty much the whole country is watching and depending on you. Those who looked bad in the tournament like Subban and Visentin are doing pretty well as are others who didn't play in the WJC. They're good goalies but the spotlight is crazy. As for the defencemen we will need some good offensive dman as well. I thought offense from the backend was pretty non existant in the tournament. If those QMJHL defenceman can provide that it will help alot but they need to not be a liability.

No denying the US one two punch at centre but I'll take my chances with McDavid, Bennett, Fabbri and McCann.

Ya, the U.S. can't match that center depth. I just wish Hockey Canada and USAH get off their ***** and make a junior border clash series once every 4 years.

They lost in a fluke game in the SF to the US who they had already beat earlier in the tournament. That's what happens in a one off tournament.

Then in the bronze medal they didn't care against a Russian team that was hell bent on winning and still could have easily won that game.

You play that tournament 10 time and Canada wins it 9 times easily. Unfortunately that one fluke game happened.

As a leafs fan, Marner is too good for OHL and sure as heck not strong enough for the NHL. If the situation calls for it, I can see Him in a Euro mens league, and certainly at the worlds next year with top line duties.

Side note...Dermott is eligible, is He not? Havn't seen him on any rosters.

Marner is under contract isn't he? Not sure he can be released to play in Euro league.

Lol why forget Dale Hunter? He'd be one of the most experienced coaches you could find. Not to consider him would be a shame. To say ohl bias is killing hockey Canada is absolute ridiculous notion.

I like our goalies for next season. Lots of goalies vying for the two spots on the team: Carter Hart, Zach Sawchenko, Troy Timpano, Stephen Dhillon, Evan Fitzpatrick, Callum Boothe, etc.
