Also Kuznetsov has looked good to me in recent games. I think he will be a legit second line player within a year.

With, as some posters have already noted, the end of true international best-on-best hockey gone with the end of Olympic participation, why would the Russian federation care about team building and evaluation? They have already shown that they can smash all opposition at the WHC, what exactly will they evaluate for? A tournament organized by their greatest rival league, a tournament they will have to shut down their own league for if they want to participate, a future hockey Ryder's Cup? The only reason may be patriotic pride, but with the KHL's finances being under pressure, why would they take a financial loss for this WC travesty?

Just seems to me that they have nothing to gain whatsoever if there is no more Olympics. Let's be honest, no one on this side of the Atlantic apart for some really hard core fans are going to care in the slightest. I bet that will include the vast majority of Russian fans, some of which will have the exact time zone issues that NA complain about when it comes to 2018.

The suggestion that the KHL won't release players for the tournament is pure speculation at this point.

It isn't speculation, it's pure ignorance. KHL have to take breaks for national team, so if FHR will decide to participate in this joke of a tournament then players from KHL will be available.

We need this tournament. We lost 2 Olympics (one of them on our own ice), so if we win in Canada, it'll be a huge deal. But it's going to be a very difficult task.

We don't. We lost Olympics because we were not good enough to win it. It is simple as that. Winning or losing in this NHL exhibition tournament couldn't change that fact.
If this CC will be in addition to Olympics then why not. One crappy tournament more. But if they want to replace Olympics then only right thing to do for FHR is to ignore this CC altogether.

If they don't bring Mozyakin this time...

He was a beast last year, and he hasn't been any less this year.

i was reading and nodding in agreement and then i saw tikhonov and shirokov's names. that's just awful. gime me my anisomov and kulemin back:laugh:

Of course Russia will win the World Cup with Anisimov and Kulemin in the lineup! What was I thinking? Sorry.

Ovechkin - Datsyuk - Tarasenko
Kucherov - Malkin - Kovalchuk
Nichushkin - Anisimov - Radulov
Kulemin - Kuznetsov - Yakupov
Mozyakin

Markov - Provorov
Chudinov - Belov

Emilin

Bobrovsky
Varlamov
Vasilevski

Bolded is the X-factor

Ovechkin Datsyuk Tarasenko
^^Found OV hasn't excelled for Russia lately, but can't play with Malks, so 1st line it is
Kovalchuk Malkin Radulov

Panarin Kuznetsov Kucherov
^^ Young guns, why not? 2 failed tournaments (2010, 2014) try something

Kulemin Anisimov Nichushkin

Voynov(if not in jail)
the rest of the 7 or 8 if he is in jail
Markov
Emelin
Kulikov
Nikitin
Koltsov
Zadorov
Nikulin
Tyutin
Belov
Chudinov
Zaitsev.
Pick em out of a hat? It's the weak point and probably doesn't matter who is there.

Varlamov
Bobrovsky
Vasilevsky

Of all the projected lineups I've seen, every one has Kulemin and Anisimov included. If the conclusion is that Anisimov and Kulemin are among the 12 best Russian forwards that have come along since 2003, that seems to be a really sad state of affairs for any tournament other than the WHC. You would almost think it would be wise to decide against entering the tournament if it would be necessary for those guys to skate a regular shift. They don't score enough to contribute to the offense, and they don't play defense well enough to shut down the kind of across the board talent that would be faced in the World Cup or Olympics.

Still Anisimov and Kulemin were better than anyone from NT at the latest WC in terms of net-front presence. Not to mention that Anisimov, while playing with injury, was really solid and hard working at the own end.

I disagree. Tikhonov and Plotnikov were both very physical in Minsk, but the difference between them and Kulemin and Anisimov is that they filled up the nets with goals. Tikhonov and Plotnikov were close behind Ovechkin and Malkin as the best forwards at the last WHC.

not high on tikhonov, he's pretty mediocre at best and way overhyped. he'll be impotent up front and a bit better on the other end. the same goes for plotnikov whose struggles this season speak for themselves. anisimov and kulemin are better choices here, though they are pretty bad too. there're no good players to choose from, that's it.

I would rather see Slovakia and Switzerland or any other two countries or just play with the top 6 countries. I hope the 2 other teams are finished early.

However, once the healthy national rosters are announced I can't imagine any fan of hockey not wanting to watch the games, even if the emotion is not as great it will be a high caliber tournament, maybe better hockey quality than the Olympics. No, it won't have the same appeal to the greater public as the Olympics, but I believe it will be great hockey. Some of the best hockey games ever played have been in September.

I also don't believe some the regular posters who claim they won't watch or they don't care. I bet Sweden or Russia or Finland or the Czechs playing for the championship will be watching and cheering. I will call that bluff all day long.

Good luck and you are correct. A Russian victory would be great for hockey in Russia and would earn much respect from your hockey peers. Much more than a World Championship, at least from me.

If Voynov is available, he replaces Emelin on the top pairing and Orlov is kicked off.

Are you certain you are a Caps fan? Orlov is way ahead of the likes of Kulikov, Tyutin and Nesterov.

Kulemin is not better than Panarin.

Semin and Anisimov out, in with Nickushkin and Burmistrov.

I'd try the line Panarin - Kuznetsov - Tarasenko. They played together in WJC, and I think they will complement each other just fine. Or make it Panarin - Malkin - Tarasenko.

And Belov will be on the roster for sure.
