Phil Loadholt retired at 30. Citing soreness in his surgically repaired achilles.

Took a pay cut to stay this year and was probably gonna be cut if he didn't beat out Andre Smith/TJ Clemmings to start in camp. Was a great run blocker but kinda hit or mass in pass protection.

Best of luck to him. Too bad it ended this way for him but he wasn't going to beat out Smith anyways.

Cool. Not sure why he waited this long if he wanted to get on good terms with the new coaching staff.

Probably wanted to A) make sure he's fully committed to playing again B) Making the right choice and C) Make sure he's in shape for camp.

Jets apparently have made three different contract offers to Fitzmagic, since their game of chicken has failed and camp starts this week. At least they are giving him options.

Would have probably done him a lot of good to do this earlier and attend ota's.

Falcons release Devin Hester. Looks like his toe never allowed him to come back and be effective.

The return game is extinct. The new rule this year increases the touchback to the 25 YD line, which means even less returns than the previously dead return game.

Hester could never really impact the game as a WR either. I think it was a cap clearing thing too, why pay a return specialist that much $$ who can't do anything else when the league is pretty much taking returns out of the game.

With NFL doing its best to limit value of returners in game you must be able to play WR or DB

Hester isn't a good WR as Falcons found out

Remember after a good game early in Atlanta the hype about "Falcons know how to use Hester ,, Something the Bears weren't smart enough to do" ,, That hype quickly faded away as Falcon fans watched the same piss poor route runner and same inability to win contested balls

Not Hester's fault as he isn't a natural WR but he cant play DB in NFL (He is atrocious at it) so it was only position he could try outside of returning kicks

If healthy he will get a contract somewhere (His threat as a return man even with new rules will entice people)

But he really isn't cut out to be anything higher then emergency WR

Hard to believe he is 33 yrs old ,, Makes me feel old and makes 2006 seem like so long ago

No surprise at all. Both sides need each other.

Talking up Geno as the potential starter is cool right up until camp is about to start. That's when you have to soften your stance and get something done. The same applies to Fitzpatrick's side as well.

The Jaguars are gonna be Hella stack next season. They are by a mile the favorites to win the ABC south, especially if Hardy signs there.

I don't think there is much interest in signing him... its just a backup plan if they can't get any pressure in preseason...all reports r fowler and ngakoue have impressed in pass rush drills.. I also don't think they r the favirites... they have a ton of new players on d and r way too unproven to be considered favorites by a mile..also bortles and the offense need to take another step forward.. they struggled early in games last year and got a lot of garbage time points
