Congrats to sparta and their fans

12,136 in attendance? God damn

You guys deserve to play the final

I read in czech newspapers that final will be in Goteborg?

Yeah you're right. The team with most points has the home ice advantage, but I missed that they also add playoff games to the total points. Frölunda has 28 points, Sparta has 25.

I guess Frölunda won't even sell out their backup arena Frölundaborg

Thx. There was quite a hype around it here. Sparta also made bigger promo for it. Game was good. Still seem to me that swedish teams either completey dominate the game or look quite boring when they loosing. Still very good confrontation

I hoped they spot it after the semi just somwhere on half way between those teams or into the middle of Europe. If so it would be sold out here imo. Frolunda is big and people want to see Sparta on top. I remember we were in final against Magnitogorsk twice? But never won it so people quite follow it now....

Don't kid yourself. That final is going to be sold out. But seeing as the city counsel members are very hostile toward hockey in this city, the final won't be played in Scandinavium.

Is it really the case that they are not able to switch adverts on ice in such a short time or is it just an excuse?

One question I heared that Lakers travelled to Prague on matchday? Is that true? If so, did they even want to win it? I would understand if they gave up in first round but in that stage? Does not make in sense.....

That's what I've read. Apparently, Swedish Hockey Games are to be played in Scandinavium two days later. I'm getting real sick and tired of Frölunda not being able to use their arena during high profile games. ****ing horse show in the middle of the playoffs every season and now this bull.

Frölunda v. Sparta Prague is the final I wanted. The perfect matchup and finals being played in Gothenburg, finally (no pun intended). But stings that its held in a 6000 cap arena.

What's the talk been in Prague about this? Heard that the CHL bosses wanted it moved to Prague.

czech article

- prize money are laughable, Sparta would earn 2M CZK (79k USD) if won it.
- CHL has noble name Champions League, maybe ambitions to become no.1 league in EU, but facilities/arenas are terrible. Club dont care, dont want to play CHL, but have to.

Neither does it to me but here we are. If clubs dont care or want to win CHL then dont participate! How hard can it be? Its different in places like Frölunda and Luleå where they constantly say they want to win the CHL as much as SHL.

In the home game against Zurich, our coach had a tantrum in the middle of the game and had to remind our players that they are highly payed hockey players. After that game, our local newspaper went ham on CHL. Saying the public doesnt care, our players certainly don't care and that nobody cares about the tournament. Its no wonder that it was a low turnout in the semifinals after a statement like that. Ive accepted that CHL is dead here and I hope the club does the same, instead of embarrassing our club in europe. Its a miracle we made it this far

That said, atleast it looked like they gave it a chance in Prague but sparta is too good of a team to overcome after that horrendous performance at home

There are some positives. The attendance figures are really good outside of Sweden. We have more parity this season in the playoffs.
The CHL final was sold out in a matter of hours, albeit in a smaller capacity arena of 6000. The price money will double(?) each year. The TV rights were renewed for another 6 seasons. The quality of hockey being played is really good. There's no sign of clubs backing out of the tourney Quite the opposite. They are invested in this.
It's slowly heading in the right direction and even the media is starting to warm up toward the tourney, although you can't do much about that ****ing mentally challenged Wennerholm.

Sure, you will find positives if you really want to.

Dont know who Wennerholm is and what he thinks. Can you elaborate?

lakers11 wrote what this czech media mentioned as one of biggest CHL problems - clubs dont care, not all of course. If you want more money from CHL (TV rights, sponsorship), you need every club to develop arena, lighting, ice, simply coverage of the game. There is one big difference among CHL and KHL - CHL offers their fans all matches at TV, even those in terrible quality. KHL dont, because the league dont want to "look bad" at international stage. Of course KHL broadcast these games at KHL TV & khl.ru, but dont sell them to abroad. It was the case a few years ago, not so often anymore, because almost all arenas have HD equipment now. KHL/Russian local broadcaster use the best equipment for derbies which are broadcasted abroad as well. I dont see this to happen in CHL. Dont know about Sweden, but here in Czech rep clubs wont invest to infrastructure because of CHL.

When Lev Prague played KHL and advanced to the GC Finals, the club moved to big O2 arena for finals (or play off? dont remember, important is that they played in O2 in final), in CHL Final you play in back up arena instead of Scandinavium. Really dumb decision.

Attendance outside Sweden - fine, but Sweden (in CHL) should be soccer England in Champions League. Can you imagine how would soccer Champions League would look like if all english clubs play in front of cca 50% capacity of the stadiums (or in back up one)? Soccer Champions League is succesfull because biggest/best euro countries sell out stadiums for CL, Sweden - as best country on ice in the tournament - is not able to do that. If the product (CHL) is not succesful in main market (SWE), then the product wont be succesful overall.

3,7 million euros next season, as was reported last Fall already. Also the CHL winner gets 150K euro this season, naturally it will be higher next season. How much teams profit depends how far they get in the tournament. In previous seasons, Kärpät and Lukko have made profit every year, even though their attendances have been lower than in Liiga. Lukko made their money (35K turnover in each home game) in concessions, food, merchandise etc.

The impession I've gotten is that because the money will be increased so much for next season, several teams here have cut corners and saved the money on advertising because several fans have expressed surprise how little there have been. And these are teams that are founding members in the league. :shakehead

Football sells out stadiums in most countries in the world because it's the biggesty sport on the planet. Hockey is not, not even in Sweden and it's not cheap to go to games. Also the comment about wanting to be number one league in Europe is patently false because the CHL is a club competition like the CHL or Euroleague. The participants change every year due to domestic success and qualification in all.

The decision wasn't Frölundas to make. They wanted to play in Scandinavium but they weren't allowed to.

The quality of broadcasts will get better each year and so will fan interest.

So what do swedish and finnish fans actually think about quality of these CHL games? I am not talking about facing french, british or polish teams (no offence), but overal when you face swiss , czechs, german, ebel or teams from your countries. What is the level compare to your leagues?

From my perspective, this hockey is bit different, not so funny always, well organized, but I can easily say its better than half of extraliga matches, so I dont even find the reason why to watch league sometimes....

Jussi said: "3,7 million euros next season, as was reported last Fall already. "

Of course CHL CEO said something else

The new contract also increases the prize money.
Baumann: Right, this increases from season to season. In the sixth year, a total of € 3.7 million will be distributed to the clubs, with the winner receiving around € 720,000.

In 6th year of a deal (with Infront) there will be 3,7 million Euro distributed to the clubs. Not next 17/18 season.

I don't trust Aftonbladet as a news source. Leman wrote Swedish Hockey Games. I'll believe it's because of melodifestivalen when you find me another credible source.
