Can we all just agree that it would be the best case scenario if Sparta won this whole thing. And might even be the favorites after tonight's showing (hopefully not jinxing it)

Fribourg is a bottom feeder in NLA right?

Seems alot weaker than Bern for example.

It's a midfield club. Typically the NLA can be arranged in 3 groups.

Top 4: Zürich
Davos
Bern
Lugano

Midrange:Geneva
Zug
Fribourg
Kloten

Bottom 4: Biel
Lausanne
Ambri
Langnau

Some might put Lugano, Biel and Lausanne into midrange as well.

Fribourg is a passionate club and even more its supporters. They prefer celebrating hockey to working it. (Goes back to the days of Bykov/Chomoutov). And they got a reputation of being soft and easy to intimidate. Plus they got a long history of losing when it matters most. (E.g. PO-finals)

Swedish clubs bombing pretty bad tonight. Vaxjo pulled through though.

The way draw is, Frolunda is in the finals unless they fail massively. The other half is way more interesting with all the teams having a chance, Swiss clubs being favorites there. Sparta winning is like 1/20. One good game and they are favorites all of the sudden?

So. All finnish teams out right? Except for maybe KalPa?

Weird CHL year. Kärpät Luleå and Skelleftea already out before this step. Sureal some how.

Nope, not as long as my team is still in competition. And if they go out tomorrow. Then there's still Fribourg.
But it's definitely refreshing to have some teams from CZE and SUI to challenge the nordic dominaters
.

Juts goes to show how much of a different animal this tournament format is. For example SaiPa knocking out Tappara in the CHL, never ever going to happen in a Liiga play-offs series. And there's still, ofcourse the filthy fact that some teams take this more seriously than the others...

I do not agree with you, as a fan of Bern, i always fear games with Fribourg. No matter if Bern is 1st and Fribourg is dead last ... . They are always open.

They always play well against Bern. It is a good team imo. With less money but with hearth (unlike Bern !! who has money ... but sometimes OMG WTF !! sad ... specially those last years ... exception 2015-16 where they qualified for the PO by nothing and they won ... but then, again, the mgmt didn't keep the coach !! SAD)

Now, this year, Fribourg went through an early crisis ... were last and already changed their coach. But Hurras is good ... i am sure nothing is over for Fribourg this year.

And the way they are playing now, they could pass to the quarter. I just watched

They will remain a good team ... the only thing is that on several games they have little chances because they have little depth.

++

and for your list ... Davos could be put down (this year ... like Fribourg ... the 2 catastrophiques teams of the season ... but unlike Fribourg ... you don't get rid of Del Courto like that ... and who wants to get rid of him by the way .... they have a whole rebuilding problem ... and a goalie problem)

In best of 2? Anything can happen

These results are definitely surprising ... on the Swiss side we have the same results ... Fribourg is here ... and Zoug got kicked out by Berlin !

Not the regular league logic !

Kärpät sucks this year and SAIK had lots of injuries so they played with lots of juniors in this tournament. Anyways, the biggest surprise is Luleå not reaching the playoffs

Yeah, Skelleftea isn't very good at anything this year. But obviously, in best out of 2 anything can happen, even Sparta win today just proves the point.

Yeah, good for some fun though. And now KalPa the only finnish team with a chance to advance, after I completely bashed them after this competition for not even deserving to be in this thing  And I still cant root for that micky mouse team despite being fellow finns...

Pretty easy to root for Sparta and Bern from now on. Kinda like some of the swedish teams (Växjö pretty much a finnish team :D) but the fans are just so arrogant...Can you believe me if I told you that I read a serious conversation a couple of years ago on a swedish hockey forum where people were dead serious about Minnesota and some other NHL teams not making the play-offs were they in the swedish league

Kärpät are trying to buy their way into success (adding Hagman and Tlusty already this early in the season and searching for a d-man) but their biggest flaw is their coach and the fact he has no system for the team, on paper one of the best teams in Europe but wouldnt win even in the finnish second tier

Luleå was honestly one of the teams that didnt seem to have a full thrive this year...Dunno

I was impressed by JYP ... and was surprised they ranked in the middle of the Liiga.
They are fast, good colective stick handling, tall, strong ... . i was surprised to see them in the middle. as said.
Funnily Kalpa impresses me way less.

Eh, swedish fans are more negative than anything. I still remember the meltdowns after Eisbären Berlin won the european trophy. People seriously argued that DEL was better than SHL. I expect nothing less this year, unless Frölunda wins the whole thing again (Växjö lakers and Linköping are a joke)

JYP will finnish higher than in the middle. They had a rough start but are now clicking. Right there behind Tappara and HIFK as far as the favorites go. Kärpät and Lukko are better than JYP on paper but their coaches are significantly worse. KalPa will finnish lower than JYP for sure.

Ridiculous Cup!

In Sweden or in Finland with few att. and cementary mood. Top-Teams with strange Performance(Lulea,Tappara,Jonkoping,Zug etc).

I can t see a future for this league!

As usual the attendance is weak since everyone in sweden is a doomsday prophet who thinks 50 games vs the same rivals are the only games worth watching :/

Great to see Växjö through <3

3-2 Fribourg. ALL finnish teams eliminated. Damn.

It sure is shoking ... and not representative of Finnish hockey.

it is actually a beauty of this CHL. Absolutely (or highly .. let's not exaggerate) unpredictable. And leaders in their home league are not granted to pass any step without fight !! i love it.
