</p>Winger Matthias Plachta, 22, is coming off a championship season with Mannheim Adler of the German DEL in which he had a total of 19 goals, 44 points and a +20 rating over 62 games. At 6’2†and 205 pounds, the national team winger has been gaining international attention while contributing two goals to the very low-scoring German effort at this tournament.

</p>For Canada, the final weekend at the 2015 IIHF World Championship has finally come as the preliminary round and even the first playoff game were to a great degree a cake walk. Domination of this sort at this tournament hasn’t been seen in recent years.

</p>After a big, 2-0 semifinal win for Canada over the Czech Republic, the Canadians will be duking it out for gold, as most have expected. Taylor Hall scored the first goal, which ended up being the game winner. </p>Brock Nelson became a full time NHL player this season with the New York Islanders, putting up 20 goals and 42 points in the process. He then followed that with six goals and nine points in nine games at the 2015 IIHF World Championship. </p>At 19, Latvian forward Rodrigo Abols was one of the youngest players participating at the 2015 IIHF World Championship the past three weeks in the Czech Republic. Although he didn’t get on the scoreboard, he did dress for all seven games and gained valuable playing experience.

This past season, Abols played predominantly for Dynamo Riga’s junior club in the MHL, where he scored 20 goals and 38 points in 35 games, but also saw time in 14 KHL contests with that organization, putting up a goal and five points in the process.… read more
