We can use this thread to post highlights from all 2015 IIHF World Championship games. Is there any TV coverage in the USA? Maybe only the big USA or Canada games on NBCSN?
the commentators on those videos are the worst thing I have ever heard.
Absolutely awful. "USA... gooooaaaaal! Number 23!" (Now let me look that up quickly, who's the player no. 23? Ah, yes:) "Scored by XY!"
You can literally feel those guys have next to zero experience with announcing play-by-play hockey on a regular basis, and it makes me cringe to listen to them. Every year for the Worlds only, IIHF should hire some of the regular NHL announcers and color commentators, from among those teams that didn't make the NHL play-offs that year. If Todd McLellan and Todd Richards and Dan Bylsma can be hired to work for the Worlds temporarily, why couldn't a couple of announcer pairs from the NHL also be hired for the duration of the Worlds?
Definitely. I love listening to Canadian play-by-play announcers (TSN, I think) during the World Juniors Championships around every Christmas time. They are very knowledgeable and professional even when announcing games not involving Canada or the US. But TSN doesn't carry all games played in the tourney. If IIHF hired announcers with NHL experience, they'd have to ensure that each and every game at the Worlds would be covered.
PS: As an LA Kings fan, I'd love nothing more than to hear Bob Miller and Jim Fox announce Worlds games whenever the Kings are out of contention in the NHL play-offs. (Every season I hope they won't be, but you never know, as the current season showed.) Bob Miller is past retirement age, though, and he probably needs to rest in the off-season, so that's unrealistic. Jim Fox as a color guy with his natural excitement for the game would be great, though. (Some folks can't stand him, but I greatly enjoy his insights.)
However, the commentators on those videos are the worst thing I have ever heard. The IIHF does a good job overall in terms of promoting the sport and such but they should get some better commentators or at least us watch the highlights without them (and without the music).
