I have liked Mark Fayne for a while now. Figured the Devils wouldnt let a guy like that go. Not that he is AMAZING but I can see him being heavily undervalued. What is this guys Corsi numbers. I can see him having a high score for this and if so, he can be a great replacement for Stralman I feel. Maybe cheaper too.

I dont like throwing around the word, replacement too much. I thought Dubi could be replaced by Nash and Brashear for Orr or Gomez for Nylander and sometimes people bring different things to the table beyond numbers.

I feel like Erhoff is gonna be expensive. But maybe not since hes still getting paid by Buffalo. Why not try? Idk much about him but if he didnt show up well in Buffalo (said by GM who said he didnt care to be here... idk how much i like that character)

He has good numbers overall, poor numbers away from Andy Greene, who is probably one of the most underrated dmen in the league.

3 yrs deferred from his best years.

32.

His last contract was 4 mill and he was bought out for being overpaid for what he brought to the table.

There are other options on the market. Gorges available. Stralman, Niskaken, etc.

I'd be surprised if he got over 3.75.

He was signed for a million years on that deal, which kept the cap hit down.

Through the buy-out he has become one of, if not THE, best defensemen on the market right now. He'll get some cash.

A few teams need work to reach the floor. But nobody wants to play for them.

Don't overlook the void Richards left. He was very versatile offensively. Miller is not Richards.

I'd rather struggle with Macilrath and have the center position strong than have Erhoff or Stralman and suck at center.

Center should be the priority. Not Stralman.

Erhoff was bought out for much the same reason we bought out Richards. He has 7 years left on his back-diving contract, and Buffalo fears the cap recapture penalty. The last 3 years of his contract are the $1M "retirement years." If he retires 4 years from now, Buffalo would be stuck with recapture right when they're ready to compete. They would presumably be spending to the cap during those years, and be completely screwed by it. The $4M cap hit for Erhoff was not "overpaid."

Haggerty has never played a professional hockey game, I don't see him playing in the NHL this year. If he does it's most likely not on the fourth line.

I wonder if D. Moore is the guy they choose to keep. Lindberg on his left. Haggerty on his right.

Lindberg offers a 5th center option that AV used this year between Boyle and Moore.

Haggerty is a big body that was used on both the PP and PK. Solid shot, big body to place in front of the net, hard hitter.

That line makes about 2.8 mill. More cap flexibility to sign better talent players.

If that line begins to suffer, the Rangers can find a value trade later on in the season.

Boyle was had for a 3rd, Carcillo for a 7th, Dorsett a throw in. Those type of players are always available, cheaply, throughout the year. Prust was a throw in on the Higgins deal.

I don't know about Bouque. He's 5'9. That's small.

Hes another example of throwing **** against the wall on your off-season plan. Now Haggerty is on the 4th line? Thats rich.

I'd rather the 4th line be both good and cheap - not one of the other. In this case, its just cheap.

I'm sure they didn't sign Haggerty to become a 4th line plug. They will want to give him at least a year in Hartford to learn.

Trading Staal for a center might be what Sather's considering.

It makes sense. Staal will easily get 6 on the open market. This last deadline saw garbage returns for rentals.

Skjei is two years away at least. They can acquire a bridge lefty for under 3 million and reup Stralman.

Just No Spezza. No Stastny.

I just said I wonder if that was a possibility.

According to Bob McKenzie just now, ANA didn't qualify Mathieu Perrault, but offered him a contract that he could accept, otherwise he's a UFA. Interesting name possibly on the market, lots of speed. Maybe worth considering...

ANA not qualifying Mathieu Perreault. Ducks have, however, given him contract offer they deem to be substantial. He's UFA unless he accepts.

That's interesting. He was pretty good for them last year

Perreault is like the center version of Pouliot. I'd take him over Brassard any day of the week.

Keeping what they can of the SCF roster together and filling the holes could leave us with something like this. Leaves $ to upgrade the 3rd or 4th rw and I think the numbers are close.

Kreider, Stepan, MSL
Nash, Brassard, Zuc
Hagelin, Miller , X

Poo goes they need another
Fast , Lindberg, Kristo may get one spot in camp
Do they sign a guy like Carter from NJ, resign Carcillo and Moore? If they go it will a guy we likely dont epect

Prefer maholtra

I have to wonder if Sather wants more nastiness in this group of guys.

Physicality and nastiness was definitely lacking last year. Perhaps targeting guys with that mindset.
