Del Zotto 2.0?

He has better tools

Moore's hockey IQ is an absolute joke.

I do not understand this board's love for him. All tools. No toolbox.

He is still very young and still developing. Anyone who saw him play in Columbus as compared to last season would see he is developing well. give him another year or 2 and see where he is at. He isn't expensive and he shows flashes of exactly what the Rangers need.

It should also be noted that before last season, he lost a bunch of weight as he was trying to accentuate his strength in his speed. He commented on how his speed was better but his strength was lacking which hurt him in battling down low. People have to understand there are more variables than just getting experience. Figuring what weight you should play at is another one.

Good point. I agree its not a fantastic organizational philosophy to pigeon-hole prospects into a 4th line role.

But, regardless, it doesn't seem to happen too often for the Rangers in any possible way.

i just feel its a lot easier to figure out a 4th line than it is to figure out a first or second line.

worst come to worse you could spread the team out and move the kids into more aggressive roles.

Hypothetically...

Let Stralman walk, sign Ehrhoff to a 4mil per deal, sign Iginla to a bonus deal that rolls over to next year, sign Moore.

Nash - Stepan - MSL (move Nash so that he's in a shooting position playing the off wing, esp playing with a right handed centerman)

Hagelin/Kreider - JT Miller - Iginla

Hagelin/Kreider - Brassard - MZA

Fasth - Moore - Carcillo

McD - Girardi

Staal - Ehrhoff

Moore - Klein

i'd even say trade Klein to open up a spot for McIlrath/Allen and play with the D pairs a little more so that you can make the cap numbers work.

I agree, which is why I am not calling for them to spend 7 million on their 4th line. Sign 1 player who can help anchor the line and pick up minutes if need be. Dominic Moore. From there try and fill out the rest of the line.

In saying that, just trying to throw 3 random cheap pieces together seems like a stupid idea.

This becomes even more important when you're 1c is better off as a 2c, and your 2c a 3c and your 3c is a rookie.

Putting D Moore on the 4th (even at 1.5-1.8 or whatever) is smart because he can fill in during injuries or important d-zone face offs.

If Step and Brassard where better at winning the puck in the 1st place it wouldn't be as much of a need (except he'd still be great to have in case of an injury).

I agree, although hockey is different here. They did seem to have guys here and there who looked good in that role. But again, it often seems like a role that you're going to have guys in and out of. They may graduate or may fade. It's tough to keep guys on that line. Having said that, it was a line where a guy can average 12-13 minutes in the regular season; not the usual 5-7 reserved for a "goon", so it was a unique position.

Leo Komarov anyone?

He is a little short on offensive skill for my liking. He is good at what he is good at, getting into dirty areas and taking advantage of what he gets. He is more than anything — always — playing with a real edge on the ice.

But he is not a good skater/passer/stick handler and so forth. His skating is not good.

Absolutely. Well said.

Rather have Maholtra on the 4th than Fast. The rest i like though I dont like some of the spots some are in.

you gotta save money...you probably dont even have enough to have a spare forward/defenseman in this particular setup....anyone wanna run the numbers? i gotta finish up this project im working on...

Iginla wants 2 years. Sign him to a 2 year 9 mill contract. 2 year 8 mill. What will it take to get him? He's getting older, he should be somewhat affordable.

Win now? Jarome is a good guy to get, then.

He wants it badly. He's come really close and hasn't lifted it yet.

Can't think of a better guy to put into a locker room immediately following a significant locker room turnover. We didn't want one, but it looks like we'll get one anyway.

He adds size AND more scoring AND a good locker room presence.

Kreider-Stepan-Zucc
Hagelin-Miller-MSL
Iginla-Brassard-Nash

Top 3 lines.

Brassard needs Zucc? Ok. Put Nash back on that line, or put Iginla on the RW. All of the wingers on these lines are interchangeable and that would be so problematic for any team trying to contend with us in the playoffs.

Give him 2 years, hopefully lower AAV.

If Stralman doesn't come back, sign Erhoff. We can deal with a pairing w/ 2 lefty shots. Improves blue line offense, too.

Want no part of Iginla.

He's going to help us lift the cup? He looked like an old, done man in the playoffs the last 2 years. Good locker room and character guy, but just like Jagr, he doesn't have enough juice left when it counts, the playoffs.

Let's say we have a budget of 3.5 mill for all of our 4th liners.

Linberg .6 mill
Moore 1.5

Leaves 1.4 mill allocation for a decent 4th liner.

There will be a value guy who's worth more than 1.4 that will sign with us for that amount and play there. Sather pulls out rabbits when he dumpster dives.

Iginla @ 4.5.
Kreider @ 1.85 - Paccioretty contract hurts him.
Zucc should get a long term contract.
Brassard the QO.
Moore @ 1.4.
Erhoff @ 3.5.

Playing on the third line might help him

Once playoffs were over, never thought Boyle would be back, but didn't think we would lose both Pouliot and Stralman.

I would love getting Iggy, and if he took 4,5x2 I'd absolutely want to sign him.

I'm not sure about Miller being ready. Going in to the season with him as the only 3C option scares me.

What? He led the Bruins in goals in the playoffs. The Bruins didnt play well overall as a team. Iginla played well. Not sure what you were watching.

PAP and a 5th to Montreal for Briere.

Well then.

Wouldn't be surprised if Colorado flipped Briere to Florida or Buffalo for a late pick or something. Otherwise, I don't quite understand this move.

Add another disgruntled center to the summer free agency party...

Ryan Johansen says the BJ's want to do a bridge deal, which Johansen feels disrespects him.

I can't remember a summer with so many players potentially on the move.

Perhaps ROR is on the move.

Pretty good value for Briere, a player whose best days are long, long behind him.
