Thought I saw 3 years for $1.65-1.8MM. I like Moore, but that seems to get up there in terms of years and amount for your fourth line centerman, given the current state of the roster.

I'd rather give that to him and solidify the 4th line C spot for the next 3 years than try to band-aid it with a different guy making 1 million every year ala Asham, Pyatt, Powe, etc.

I'm willing to have a rotation at certain positions. 4LW? 4RW? okay. Hell, even 3LW/RW I'm okay with. 4C is a very important position in AV's system, especially with a rookie 3c possibly being tried.

Regarding DuClair, I'd like to see him play against Juniors one more season after coming back from the concussion. Would not want t put that skinny kid in there against some of the bigger NHL'ers just yet.

think it would be a mistake to keep him with the club this year.

Manny Malhotra is another player that should be looked HEAVILY. Another guy who is great on face-offs and skates well. Veteran. Can play wing or center. Has good hands, high hockey IQ and feel for the game.

Jay McClement is another guy I would add if Malhotra isn't possible.

This team needs to start the season with at least 5 centers. They want to play a puck possession style. In order to do that you need to win faceoffs. Moore, Malhotra, McClement. Sign 2. Fill in the gap on the other side. All 3 are excellent PKers.

I truly think he's a pipe dream.

AV was vehemently against Malhotra ever playing in the NHL again. He cares about him as a player and I think if an injury happened under AV's nose and direction... it would be excessively painful for him.

I don't think it's a possibility.

I think that Corsi is quite a bit less of a good representation of play compared to most advanced baseball stats, for example.

You can use fenwick close. Kings were number 1 team in the league in that stat added ended up beating the number 2,3 and 5 (rangers) in the playoffs. Top fenwick close team also won ahl championship. Corsi is a slightly less predictive stat...but it's easier to grade individuals by and is in the same ballpark.

Considering he has played a full season already in Carolina, he should just be another player. Same with Marc Staal.

This organization doesn't want to overpay 4th liners, which is understandable, but they also do a terrible job at developing them in house.

Something doesn't add up with that sort of plan.

I'd like to have him also, just also think that if you did find a guy making $1MM, the extra $650-800k may be the difference in keeping Stralman AND Staal, as opposed to losing one; or something along those lines. It becomes an equation of what is more important. I sometimes think having a defenseman like Klein is more of a luxury than necessity when you are trying to keep certain players, or sign youngsters to longer-term contracts. A fourth liner is similar and I actually didn't think any of the three linemates on the fourth line were outstanding, it was how that line as a whole played, and one of the major cogs on that line, Boyle, is likely gone. I keep saying it and that is I'm not smart enough to do the entire exercise and scour the league's UFAs and drum-up potential trades to make it all fit. I'd like as little turnover as possible in the top 9 forwards, and top 4 defensemen. Depth may need to come from youth.

Welcome to the Malhotra bandwagon! There is still a ton of space on here, and I have no idea why. He'd be perfect for this team.

There's still plenty of room on the Skille train, too ;)

Exactly. I understand wanting to fill certain spots cheaply. But you need to have certain positions solidified in order to do so.

I don't know why on earth no one has caught on my Stu Bickel 4th line RW bandwagon yet. :shakehead

Is a fourth liner really developed in-house? I mean, isn't Boyle kind of a bust, having been a #1 pick? They kind of just become fourth liners over time, then some accept their role and do what needs to be done. I don't know how other teams get to their fourth liners. Guy comes up through the system and is still there 12-14 years later as a fourth liner? I just don't know (although Moore was kind of developed in-house, but left and came back).

our 4th line was all scrap heapers at one time or another. Got Moore, Boyle, Carcillo, and to a lesser extent Dorsett (big trade, but i feel like he was more of a throw in) as scrap heap players. No reason to believe they cant do it again.

I also think, while the value of an effective 4th line is undeniable, the pain an expensive 4th line can cause with the rest of your lineup is significantly more dangerous than having a lesser 4th line than last year.

a 2.5M 4th line + Ehrhoff (for ex) > a 6.6M 4th line

Our entire 4th line this year we didn't overpay for and we didn't produce in house. Idk why those are the only criteria for building a successful 4th line when:

Boyle was traded for. 3rd round pick.
Dorsett was traded for. Throw in in Gaborik deal.
Carcillo was traded for. Conditional 7th round pick.
Moore was signed cheaply. 1 mill 1 yr deal.

That is true. The one point I will make is it seemed as though it wasn't successful overnight, though. That is the concern. With Dorsett already gone and Boyle most likely gone (and he would just be too expensive on this team), you almost do have to begin over again. But of course, if the rest of the team isn't winning, the fourth line doesn't look as good, so you really need the rest of your house in order first.

I think there are some value guys. I'd love to resign one of Boyle/Moore, but if they want the moon.... as you said, get the rest of your house in order first.

I agree, which is why I am not calling for them to spend 7 million on their 4th line. Sign 1 player who can help anchor the line and pick up minutes if need be. Dominic Moore. From there try and fill out the rest of the line.

In saying that, just trying to throw 3 random cheap pieces together seems like a stupid idea.

..which is a pretty great attribute to have.

You can teach defensive positioning, stick-work. You can practice breakout passes. You can attempt to play more physical.

You can't teach a player how to skate like that at this level.

Moore's hockey IQ is an absolute joke.

I do not understand this board's love for him. All tools. No toolbox.

Good point. I agree its not a fantastic organizational philosophy to pigeon-hole prospects into a 4th line role.

But, regardless, it doesn't seem to happen too often for the Rangers in any possible way.
