I just spit chocolate milk all over my keyboard. Mark Fayne is an abomination of an NHL player
The ****?

Klein is going to be the 2nd RHD if Stralman doesn't take the offer we give him.
Definitely not, I wouldn't go over 4.5M AAV, but I don't get why it's either "if Stralman leaves we're 30th next season" or "Stralman can be replaced by any bum". There's a middle ground. He's been very good for the Rangers and we should strive to keep him imo, if the price is right.
This post makes me happy. One would hope a defensemen would look solid when used like this:

If stralman walks and Staal is resigned well be fine
Its tough to see a scenario where the team gets definitively better if either one leaves.
Even if adding more offense?... because despite the SCF run last year, again, that's what did us in... lack of offense and finishing.
In the playoffs:
Kevin Klein Quality of Competition - 27.4%
Anton Stralman Quality of Competition - 29.3%
Not necessarily the biggest disparity, wouldn't you say?
One of these players played with Marc Staal. The other played with John Moore or Raffy Diaz.
Klein is as good, or just marginally worse than Stralman.
*puts up shield*
I dont see a realistic scenario that adds enough offense to cover the big hole that'd open up if Staal or Stralman left.
If Stralman is better.. He's not 2M better that's for sure. Klein is making 2.9 signed for 4 more years.. Stralman is looking likely to get at least 4.5
thank you for the stats...
When you look at the ****ing stats, that is a RIDICULOUS number for Stralman... Klein is set to make $1.1M LESS than him and yet they are nearly the same player
Nah man, Klein is as good as Stralman!!

AGAIN, the quality of Klein's PARTNER is garbage... Not saying Staal carried Stralman this year, but I'd love to see the stats if Stralman was paired with John Moore all year.
Klein is nearly the same player as Stralman in the same sense that Brassard is nearly the same player as Malkin. They are both male humans and they play the same position in the NHL. Any serious analysis shows them diverging markedly after that point. Concluding otherwise indicates that you are not actually looking at the stats.
2% is a massive disparity in QoC. Notice how some players are all the way to the left, and some all the way to the right? That's because the % of defensive zone starts Stralman (39.5%) got is, literally, double what Klein got (21.7%). Klein and J. Moore were completely spoon fed the easiest possible match ups by AV.

Staal + Conditonal 1st '16 (if he doesn't re-sign) for E. Kane
Lindberg wins the 3c spot. Face-offs, defensive prowess PKing ability. Very solid player.
Sign Stralman @ 4.4 for 6 years.
Sign D Moore 3 years @ 1.75 million

Posting logical arguments will get you nowhere on here.
Stralman is our best defender. We owe it to him to pay him whatever he wants, regardless of what he actually brings to the table - which Klein does, and for near half the price.
The big issue with the Rangers D after letting Stralman walk is 3RD, not 2RD. Which of course is a domino effect of losing Stralman, but Klein is 2RD capable.
