One would hope a defensemen would look solid when used like this:

IMO there is no chance Stralman takes 4mil. Hopefully he stays with the Rangers because the defense would be in shambles without him.

What is your opinion based on? If he is looking for security and Nitkin just got 4.5 x 2, why wouldn't Stralman accept 4M x 5y? Three more years of security for .5m less a year.

Let's not forget the true impact here.

Klein may be able to replace Stralman with Staal.

But Klein was invaluable with Moore - when Klein came, he really helped Moore progress as a player.

Playing Moore with McIlrath or Diaz is not only going to make our #6 spot weak, but also affect Moore's game.

This is also a good point, but it's also easier to find someone to replace the 3rd pair than the 2nd pair.

If a defensemen not named Klein is moved, there's no reason why Klein/Moore can't stay a pairing if AV feels they have good chemistry.

McD is good enough to play with someone who isn't as good as he is, and the olympics proved he could play both sides.

I wouldn't suggest putting Allen on his line right away or something, but AV likes balance, and I think the moves that will have to be made this offseason should prompt the team to rebalance its defensive pairs a bit more.

They could also go back to Girardi/McD vs power lines or late in games.

I really have an issue with this team bending backwards for Stralman like so many of you suggest, who had 13 points this season, and can't play top pair minutes. He's literally not worth a penny over 4 million.

To get away from the defensive situation for a moment, the 1st round of the draft is tomorrow night. Anyone think we'll make a pick?

This is true to an extent, but you can stick a young guy like Allen or McIlrath with Staal. Look what Staal did for Sauer while he was healthy. Heck look at the money Stralman is about to make.

I would not miss John Moore if he was traded at all. Think he is actually a good trade asset still.

Opinion is based on the quality of player Stralman is. Especially since it was exposed during the playoffs. No longer a hidden secret.

No, they won't trade anyone on the roster just to get a 1st round pick. They just went to the SCF.

I don't think we get a 1st this year.

Next year, I wouldn't be surprised.

That isn't the only way to obtain a 1st round pick. Maybe there's a player they like and they trade the 2nd round pick and a 2nd in 2015 (or a prospect) to move up.

Please do not suggest Klein or McIlrath(LOL) is that replacement.

If stralman is gone, Fayne would probably be the best replacement. Plays a similar game.

I just spit chocolate milk all over my keyboard. Mark Fayne is an abomination of an NHL player

Klein is going to be the 2nd RHD if Stralman doesn't take the offer we give him.

These are stats versus star forwards during the season. It would seem he actually can play top pair minutes.

So should we should overpay for him to see if he can do it? and hope he can?

They have offered him 4M a year which IMO is a very solid offer.

Definitely not, I wouldn't go over 4.5M AAV, but I don't get why it's either "if Stralman leaves we're 30th next season" or "Stralman can be replaced by any bum". There's a middle ground. He's been very good for the Rangers and we should strive to keep him imo, if the price is right.
