Would it be too outlandish to suggest trading Girardi? This guy while a good top 4 defender has carried down the play of McDonagh. I'd love to see what Stralman can do alongside McDonagh for a full season as they're limited time together on the ice showcased dominance in play.

As a Girardi replacement, it'll be tough. But I think signing a guy like Mark Fayne as a reclamation project would be a good replacement. Efficient puck mover with untapped defensive potential. Could be Stralman 2.0.

After that keep Staal until the deadline and trade him if he's not willing to agree to an extension similarly to Callahan.

Girardi has a NMC and we just made the SCF. He's not goung top wave it to go just anywhere if at all and ur not going to want to trade him to a contender...

Offer Stralman 5 years 20M (4M per) if he takes it then IMO deal Staal for a center. There's no way wr can afford to lock up our D long term when other than Mac everyone of them provides very little offensively

IMO there is no chance Stralman takes 4mil. Hopefully he stays with the Rangers because the defense would be in shambles without him.

Beniot Pouliot’s contract situation is very similar to Anton Stralman’s. Almost every Rangers fan wants him back, but they’re not willing to overpay to do it.

Katie Strang at ESPN*says that the Rangers have spoken contract with Pouliot since the end of the season and the winger is looking for a multi-year deal to stay in New York.

If Stralman walks I say you keep Staal, long term, and sign Niskanen to pair with him.

Allows Niskanen a defensively responsible partner that not only helps him grow as a better defender but will allow him to be more aggressive offensively, something that we desperately need.

If we're paying 4-4.5 mill for a RHD on the 2nd pairing, go with the youth. Dont go near Dan Boyle if he wants over 4 and to be playing 17-20 minutes a game.

So let Stralman leave because there is 'no money for him' and sign Niskanen who will be looking for $5 million + per?

Boyle has all the right checkmarks for a Sather Free Agent splash signing.

Try and hand Stralman a lowball offer, when he laughs, go shower Dolan Dollars on 38 year old Dan Boyle.

The PP has sucked literally for a decade, and every summer we sit on this board waiting for the next "Silver Bullet" signing to fix the PP.

Wasn't Sad Brad supposed to save the PP? Who was it before him? Wendy Redden? Ales Kotalik? Long list of free agents who were brought in to "QB the PP" and flamed out.

2 yrs 4 per tops...............if he can get 3 well good for him, he's dumb to leave a good line.

4 mil per year for Pouliot? If he wants a penny over 2 mil per year, goodbye, and even that might be too much. Since his ELC expired, he's signed five 1 year deals and has been on 5 different teams. 36 points in 80 games with the Rangers doesn't suddenly earn him a huge raise. If we offer him 2 x 2 he should take it and be happy.

2.5 is my max for Pouilot and the 500K extra is because that was a very good line and I want to keep it together

It's not Stralman vs. Klein, it is Stralman versus Staal. Either way one of them has to be replaced. People feel we already have a replacement for Stralman in Klein and I wholeheartedly disagree with that. Not to mention Stralman looks to be the anchor on that pairing statistically, making him the even harder player to replace. Staal is a compliment just as Girardi is to McDonagh. Which of McD and Girardi is the easier guy to replace? Hypothetically if someone was saying let McD walk because the Rangers have Staal to fill his minutes the board would be in an uproar because it is clear Staal is not the player McDonagh is, both statistically and visually. It is the same for Stralman and Klein. Can Klein play in Stralman's place? Sure. Will he do it as well? No, probably not. I'm not sure where people are getting this idea Klein was brought here to replace Stralman, based on what? One question AV answered regarding Klein's ability to play top4 minutes? That's more like an honest and candid answer to a hypothetical question.

Lastly, when it comes down to money, Staal is going to cost more probably in the tune of 1-1.5 million more a year to play the exact same minutes.

For god's sake....

The guy was the #2 RHD in Nashville behind SHEA WEBER, A TOP 3 DEFENSEMAN IN THE ENTIRE NHL...

I don't know how else to explain this to anyone. Go to the main boards. Klein is noted as a Top 10 defenseman EVERYWHERE ELSE... people suddenly think Stralman is miles better than him?

Klein is just as good as Stralman. The notion that we have to pay Stralman whatever he wants or our D will be in shambles is absurd. He had 13 points last year he adds nothing offensively. If u want 5M on THIS team when we already have Mac, G, Staal etc u damn sure better put up more than 13 points

You obviously haven't seen what Niskanen is asking for.

Posting logical arguments will get you nowhere on here.

Stralman is our best defender. We owe it to him to pay him whatever he wants, regardless of what he actually brings to the table - which Klein does, and for near half the price.

The big issue with the Rangers D after letting Stralman walk is 3RD, not 2RD. Which of course is a domino effect of losing Stralman, but Klein is 2RD capable.

Im not going to get into how good Stralman or Klein are because its all subjective.

But I'd definitely feel much more comfortable replacing Stralman with Klein than replacing Staal with God knows what.

It is significantly easier to replace a 3RD than a 2RD, this doesn't hold water for me. They could say resign Diaz who is fine on the third pairing as long as he is on the right.

Stralman is suddenly looking better than every defenseman not named McDonagh on this team. You do realize players can take steps to evolve their game and become better correct? Maybe this was a fluke year, but maybe Stralman is just way better than his history suggests.

Also lolol top10 defenseman wat?

Yes he was solid for the most part...

On the third pairing.

and I can turn it around and say... you mean by playing with John Moore?... sometimes Raphael Diaz (in Moore's suspension)...

instead of Marc Staal?

In the playoffs:

Kevin Klein Quality of Competition - 27.4%
Anton Stralman Quality of Competition - 29.3%

Not necessarily the biggest disparity, wouldn't you say?

One of these players played with Marc Staal. The other played with John Moore or Raffy Diaz.

Klein is as good, or just marginally worse than Stralman.

*puts up shield*

If Stralman is better.. He's not 2M better that's for sure. Klein is making 2.9 signed for 4 more years.. Stralman is looking likely to get at least 4.5

Yea, with an inconsistent idiot like John Moore.

Imagine what we could do with a defensive stalwart like Staal - you know, the kind of nice situation Stalman found himself in.

and again, signing Stralman for 4-4.5M long term locks this defense up for a long time (Mcdonagh 6 years, Girardi 5 years, Stralman 4/5 years, Klein 4 years) and over 20M in cap space with Moore/Diaz/etc filling it out and only Ryan Mcdonagh has any offensive capabilites.. That's not a good thing IMO.

On TSN's off season plan for the rangers they suggested/predicted we replace Stralman with Tom Gilbert from Florida.... what is his deal any good?
