I have never been a big fan of Brassard, and I have reservations about him being the #2C going forward.

However, I am just not seeing how this team can simultaneously find a replacement for Richards AND upgrade on Brassard, in addition to dealing with either resigning or replacing our other UFAs. The cap flexibility isn't there.

Normally, you won't find a bigger proponent of upgrades at center than me, but this is the reality of the situation. If the team becomes too committed at upgrading the center position, its undoubtedly going to be felt negatively elsewhere in the lineup. Pick your poison.

Wouldn't really classify Kadri as shiny new toy syndrome. He's shown this year that's he's almost a ppg player on a team that played very poorly, while also having very good possession numbers.

50 points in 78 games is almost PPG?

He plays on a team that has no defensive structure and they have some very good wingers. I don't think he'd do any better than Brass on the Rangers.

Depends on your definition of almost.

Using that one, Brassard is almost a point per game player too. So what are we complaining about?!

You can draw a lot of crazy conclusions when you extrapolate from half a season.

Meh, you can tell trends.

Brassard, who's been in this league for a while now has around a .60 ppg average. He fluctuates between .63 and .55.

Kadri had .92 last year. .64 this season on a down year. That's still higher than Brassard. For Brassard, the 5 year sample size that shows a consistent trend projects that he'll remain in this vicinity. For Kadri, it means that he has the potential to be a 1c with a floor of a 2c...?

Usually players get better from how they are rookie season. If Kadri was to just remain consistent... he'd have 75 points. That's 1c potential.

I like Brass a lot, I think a full season with Zucc on his right and he can be a 2C. What qualifies as a 2C anyway? 50 points? Brass can do that easily. 20 G, 30 A.

I also think Brass is well liked in the locker room. We shouldn't be looking to move him.

Then why hasn't he done it yet?

Signing Stastny would be an incredibly dumb decision. I am fully expecting it to happen.

Am I the only Ranger fan who thinks that Stepan can still develop into a legitimate 2 way 1C? The guy is 23...He can score 65 points and be a top 5-10 2 way C in the NHL. He's still developing.

And if Miller can ever show even a semblance of the prowess offensively that he showed in the AHL, we'll be fine at C. Of course, I don't think Stepan becomes elite overnight. But he can be a legitimate 1C, Patrice Bergeron type. He's nearly that already.

Guess that makes Stepan a legit #1 C as well. Our search has ended.

You don't think he's trending towards a 20-25g season with 40-45 assists?

60-70 pt player in a year or two.

Gee, wonder why Toronto wants to get rid of him.

Then why hasn't he done it yet?

That's a fair question. I'm not saying he will do it. But he and Zucc really clicked. I don't know where I could find this stat, but I'd like to know how many games he played with Zucc on his right and how many points he had in those games.

He's good for 40-50 points already, I see no reason why he can't score 50+. Don't misinterpret what I'm saying. I'm not saying that it would be prudent to assume he scores 50 points. But I wouldn't label him "he is what he is" just yet.

Gee, I wonder if buying low on a 23 year old with a first line ceiling was actually a bad idea.

Because who would ever want to do a low risk high reward trade... like ever?

Kadri is a headcase who is lost on the defensive side of the puck, and has never come close to this ceiling youre projecting. But other than that, yea, totally low risk.

He's also 23 and exceptionally talented. Coaching/leadership can have a huge influence on a player. Toronto is a mess in that department.

What's your idea of low risk? They aren't going to just give him away.

Or we can flip it so it doesn't sound so negatively and say Kadri is a headcase who has immense potential on the offensive side and needs discipline to finally start playing defensively.

No one in Toronto's locker room holds him accountable.

I wonder what bringing a player like that into a winning locker room with veteran leadership and a solid coach might be able to do for him?

Bet the Kings should have never traded for Justin Williams... cause he absolutely isn't a case of how bringing one of those types of players into a winning environment creates a winning player...

How are you obtaining ROR, Thornton, or Spezza? And if its Stastny, it'll almost certainly be over $6.75M.
