2014 Kings Stanley Cup championship-winning puck being auctioned off

It will go down in value when Toffoli scores the Stanley Cup winning goal in OT this season.

How did they get it and how do you know its legit?

The only reason I assume its legit is because in the lising it mentions " Ironclad provenance is supplied with a holographic authentication sticker from Fanatics Authentic, the official source for NHL game used memorabilia". I assume you could call Fanatics Authentics or Heritage Auctions and ask to see the "Ironclad Provenance" or ask them where they got it from before you bid

Whaa...how....HOW? WHY?

I remember in 2012 Luc Robitaille wanting to get the puck back from New Jersey, where one of their players picked it up at the time. No one knows for sure who it was, but Patrick Elias seems to be the prime culprit.

Anyways, I would think that puck and the Martinez goal puck would be at the Hockey Hall of Fame. I have serious reservations about this auction.

A piece taken from pucks used in Game 5 of the 2014 Cup Final was engraved in the limited edition Graham watches that the players received.

I'm sure the autograph on the puck may be legit, I question if it is THE puck that Martinez put in the net. The only letter of authenticity worth anything would be if it came directly from the Kings. Otherwise, don't buy it.

It was Elias, and he returned it.

So i was curious and i emailed my ticket representitive about this auction and this was their resonse

I just checked with our Community Relations department, and that puck is not being sold through us. The NHL held all of the game-scored pucks from the Stanley Cup Finals, so I am unable to verify the authenticity of that puck. If the auction was through our team or through the NHL, it would be listed here: http://auction.nhl.com/iSynApp/allA...mode1=search&pgmode2=&query=Los+Angeles+Kings.

The puck would also come with a Certificate of Authenticity that proves the puck is what it says and that the autograph is legitimate. Also, just from my experience, a game-used puck would look way more worn. Typically some of the logo has been rubbed off and the puck has scratches and dings from being used during the game.

I cannot comment on the authenticity of the puck, because I really do not know, but I would guess that the puck is not legitimate.

Hopefully this helps. Sorry I couldn't give you a definitive answer.

Thanks,

Guessing he was occupied with other things and didn't pick it up. That being said, no way I would trust that it was the real one, don't care who says what.

But, but...it has a sticker on it and everything!

I collect some pucks here and there. My favorites are from the all-time greats with kind of cool inscriptions and H.O.F. dates. For example:

Bobby Hull signature #9 with "The Golden Jet" inscription and his HOF year.

Gordie Howe signature #9 with "Mr. Hockey" inscription and his HOF year.

Also, like the older guys because you can actually read their signatures. Also, have both the Esposito brothers.

Every goal, scoring game puck I have has tape around it stating who, scored and period might have time and date as well, I wouldn't trust the seller on top of that the puck looks way to clean to me game used.
