Disgusting "korean" roster. IIHF should BAN such mass naturalizations. Max 1 naturalized player per country, that's it. Develop your own players over time.

I think its actually cool finding out that Oilers busts like Radunske and Young are South Korean superstars at hockey lol

With each day it looks worse and worse for Slovenian NT in this tournament. It looks that at least 7 players from Olympic team in Sochi will miss tournament. And beside Mursak those are our best players:

- Anze Kopitar (we knew for a long time he'll miss)
- Robert Kristan (No. 1 goalie - playing in finale of Slovakian championship)
- Ziga Jeglic (1st line F - his team lead 3:1 in Germany and need only one win for finale)
- Rok Ticar (1st line F - his team lead 3:1 in Germany and need only one win for finale)
- Robert Sabolic (1st line F - his team lead 3:1 in Germany and need only one win for finale)
- Ales Kranjc (1st pair D - his team lead 3:1 in Geramny and need only one win for finale)
- Sabahudin Kovacevic (1st pair D - his team will play in finale of Russia VHL league)
- Klemen Pretnar (top 6 D)

Those positions they played on Olympics.

I'm really not optimistic and I fear will stay for another year division 1...

Kölner Haie reached the DEL final a few minutes ago which means that Tičar (F) and Krajnc (D) wont be playing for Slovenia.

Ingolstadt in front 3-2 after two periods against Hamburg. Sabolic's PP goal is a GWG at this point.

And btw, not on the list, Gracnar is in the Austrian finals, too. One more year in IA for sure

And Kölner Haie will play against Ingolstadt for the DEL title which means that Sabolič (F) and Jeglič (F) will also miss the Div I tournament for Slovenia.

The Austrian finals are already done. Championship goal scored by a SLO NT forward Ziga Pance.

IA for sure? Let's wait and see.

Is it true Slovenia has only 150 professional players? If that's true it's amazing they have so many players playing at a high level.

It absolutely is amazing but it may not be the case for much longer. Their U18 team is likely to finish 5th in the Div. 1B with countries like Hungary and Ukraine above them.

Can someone briefly explain how the rosters work? You have to intially submit 15 skaters amd 2 goalies? and the remaining players are interchangable based on if players get eliminated from playoffs or something? Or am I totally off base here. It doesnt start until May 9th, and the 1st round will be overby then for sure.

Reading.
Actually attending the last set of games. Should be entertaining. I can say that there is almost no footprint of ice hockey in the Incheon/Seoul area. Very very niche.

Not true. This number is likely 150 male players over the age of 18. If professional means "players earning their living simply from playing ice hockey alone" than the number is somewhere around 50.

All in all there are about 1000 players (male/female - ok basically 950 male then) of all ages in Slovenia.

Slovenia U18 team lost in the first round against hosts Hungary, but has since won two successive games in regulation (Poland & Ukraine) and are tied second on the table with six points (the same as Austria and Japan). Hungary is dominating and will likely get promoted.

Does anyone know if any of the games are streamed online. Would love to some of these countries play. I am curious, how is the growth of hockey in Korea? Is there much support for Asia League Ice Hockey(ALIH)?

Besides.. Championship division (or whatsitscalled) at U18 has only 10 teams, not 16. So IB division is teams fighting for promotion to top 16, same as 1A division with adults (if that made any sense.. to tired.. zzZzzZZzzz...).

Back in 2003 I was living in Seoul and got to attend the 2003 Div III championships. South Korea sure has come a long way since then.

Having said that there is a danger that they could lose every game in this tournament.

And it looks like the first major upset of the tournament is in the making right now. 3 minutes left in the 3rd period and Japan is leading vs. Slovenia, 2-1. :handclap:

Looks like there is a chance that anyone but Italy, Kazakhstan, Austria or Slovenia will be promoted. First time since in Hungary in 2008.

Is this Hungary's time again, or does any of Japan, South Korea or Ukraine have a chance?

Nah, this championship is Austria's to lose. They have already won against Ukraine which is a bit of a dark horse and they have by far the best line-up.

Although, just checked Austrian roster, man is it brutal. What are they thinking? Agree, it's anyone's game, every European team still has a chance. Japan and Korea - not really.
