Get Nash to waive his NTC to go play with his buddy Joe Thornton.

3 Way Trade:

To NYR: Pavelski and Ladd

To SJ: Nash and Kane

To WPG: Staal, Hertl, J.T. Miller

WPG trades Kane and Ladd for Staal, Hertl and J.T. Miller

NYR trades Nash and Staal for Pavelski and Ladd

SJ trades Pavelski and Hertl for Nash and Kane

Kreider Pavelski St. Louis
Ladd Brassard Zuccarello
Hagelin Stepan Kristo/Haggerty
Glass Moore Lindberg

McDonagh Boyle
Moore Girardi
Allen Klein

Lundqvist
Talbot

Stanley Cup Champions.

Stepan a third liner? I've seen it all

We have proposed lineups with MSL on the third line as well... I think people would like to keep our narrative of running 3 scoring lines going from last year. I don't think it's practical unless Miller, Kristo and/or Fast fill in the offense though.

Maybe NYR make the magic trade for Yakupov but I'd be surprised at this point. Maybe nab Brett Connolly because he's waiver eligible this year.

Stepan a third liner? I've seen it all

The order the lines are listed in has nothing to do with what kind of "liner" a player is.

Zuccarello was on our "de facto THIRD line" last season and he was our leading scorer. Would you call him a "third liner?"

I don't think you would. :shakehead

I just noticed Brett Bellemore is a UFA. He had a good year, I liked what I saw from him physically.

What do you guys think?

Not sure why so many are afraid of J.T. Miller playing in that spot. He will most likely be between St. Louis and Hagelin. Two guys who will help him grow as an NHL player.

I wish there were some way to find J.T.'s possession numbers from Hartford, Plymouth, WJC, and USNTDP. If i were a betting man, I would think he has solid possession numbers at every level.

With a possession driver and extremely solid board player like Hagelin, Miller could really grow this season.

This reminds me a lot of when Dubinsky was going to end up a top 9 forward when Matt Cullen left in the summer of 2007. Many wanted the Rangers to go out and get a big name instead.

Dubinsky ran with it and became a real good player in 07-08 his first full NHL season.

Not coincidently, they are somewhat similar players.

Sign Stempniak, adds another leader to the locker room, a right handed shot to play with Brassard and Zuccarello. Potential for about 14 goals or so. And I would bet he would show up in the playoffs.

I think you watch WAY too much hockey ;) who's he?

Rough RHD that played for the Hurricanes. Really hard hitter, really annoying to play against.

Big boy at 6' 4" 225 lbs. He played against some rough competition. 3rd highest Corsi rel QoC on his team for d-men, behind only Faulk and Sekera.

If I had a nickel for every conversation with an NHL front office executive or agent this summer that included the phrase, “The Rangers need to trade Nash,” I would have a nickel from essentially every conversation I have had this summer, and my cap hit would approach Rick Nash’s $7.8 million.

But I’m here to tell you that a trade is not happening. Nash has a no-move clause in his contract in force through the end of this season that management has no intention of asking him to waive and No. 61 has no intention of volunteering to forfeit.

The Rangers are not asking Nash to leave town after two seasons on Broadway in which he led the team in goal-scoring both times, and No. 61 is not asking for an exit from New York after recording a sum of four goals in 37 playoff games.

The concept is not on the table for either party.

Thoughts?

Well that's depressing to hear.

I really do think the window is only open until the end of this coming season. Trading Nash, amongst others, definitely needs to be considered next summer.

Why would the window for the Rangers close after this season?

Lundqvist, Girardi, and Nash are the elders of the core and they are still in their primes in their early 30s.

Stepan, McDonagh, Hagelin, Kreider, Zuccarello, Brassard, Staal, J.Moore are all in their early to mid 20s.

Klein is only 28.

St. Louis and Boyle are the old guys, but St. Louis is still a high-end player.

Then there are a handful of young guys looking to crack the roster like Miller, Lindberg, Kristo, Fast, Duclair, Haggerty, so on up front, and Skjei, McIlrath, Zamorsky, and a handful of other defensemen.

While the bulk of the Rangers core has at least 5 or more years of high-end play left, i don't see how the window is closing.

A window, when it comes to cup winning is a completely fan-made imaginary construct.

Teams strategize based on what they have, but I'd be highly surprised if the first LA win, or the NYR or NJD finals runs were considered "In the window" for anyone until they actually got there.

St. Louis is probably going to retire. Lundqvist will be 34 when the 2016-17 season starts. Nash will probably (should) be a cap casualty that won't even be worth half his contract in two years. Staal will most likely price himself off our team. Who knows how many more tough miles Girardi can take.

There are going to be a lot of question marks on the team after next season. If you think there are going to be a lot of rookies pushing for spots this year, wait until 2016. Barring another wonder trade similar to the one that brought McDonagh here, I don't see this team having the top end talent to contend for the Cup beyond this year.

EDIT: Don't get me wrong, Lundqvist will still drag this team kicking and screaming into the playoffs as long as he's around. I simply see this team back in the cycle of that elusive "one player away" from making another run. St. Louis was that guy this year and the Rangers were 3 games away from winning it all.

I think the Rangers are growing a core that is learning how to win in this league.

The same core group got to the Conference Final two years ago, and got to the Stanley Cup Final this past season.

Two deep runs in a three year span.

Lundqvist, Girardi, McDonagh, Staal, Stepan, Hagelin, Kreider were big parts of both runs.

Now Brassard, Zuccarello, John Moore, Nash, and Klein are added to that group.

This team lacked a couple of peripheral parts such as another forward with size and a PPQB, but this team has proven it can go deep.

Hopefully we addressed the PPQB issue.

If we sign Stempniak to play on Brassard's LW, and add J.T. Miller in the middle, that addresses two needs, a winger and center with size.

Losing Stralman and Boyle were big blows. But i believe our longevity is there and someone will step up and fill those roles...hopefully.

I don't look at rookie as some taboo thing. IMO Brady Skjei is more intelligent of a player than at least half of our current defense corp right now. That kid is going to be a core piece. If we lose Staal, i don't think it will effect this team on the ice as much as your're letting on. Skjei will be ready in fall 2015. Miller will have his chance to cement his place on the roster. And if he does he will grow into a pain in the neck to play against.

Lundqvist is going to play for a long time. He takes care of himself.

If St. Louis retires, fine. They will fill that hole with someone else.

Successful teams find a way to be resiliant after tough losses. The Rangers gutted the heart of their lineup after the 11-12 season, Dubinsky and Anisimov, and once they filled those spots with Brassard and Zuccarello, they were back in it.

This club will be fine. I don't believe in the gloom. As long as they continue to find talent and character to come in and fill vacant positions they will be successful.

There are only a few teams that have repeatedly gone as deep as the Rangers recently. Bruins, Kings, Black Hawks, Penguins, Red Wings.

We were three goals away from a Cup.

I refuse to believe this group is going to roll over just because a few guys leave or get a year or two older.

No one gave them a chance in 11-12, a lot of people thought we wouldn't make the playoffs in 13-14. And they keep proving everyone wrong.

You're not wrong, I just tend to have a bit more pessimistic view of it going forward. I'm also very hopeful that Miller becomes that center with size that's good on faceoffs. I hope that Duclair or Buchnevich become that dynamic top 6 winger that can score a goal at any given time. I hope McIlrath can become that bruising defenseman that makes life miserable for other forwards.

A lot needs to go right for this team to contend consistently, but you're right. The core of this team is learning what it takes to win. I just hope that the salary cap, our GM, or other acts of God don't cause us to lose too much of that core moving forward.

The order the lines are listed in has nothing to do with what kind of "liner" a player is.

Zuccarello was on our "de facto THIRD line" last season and he was our leading scorer. Would you call him a "third liner?"

I don't think you would. :shakehead

It was a 3rd line. That line got the easiest match ups out of our forwards.

I understand your concerns. I get worried, too.

A lot of things do need to go right. But i also believe that a good team will make those things happen. And i believe we are good. I believe we have a good scouting staff, i believe we have a good coaching staff that nearly got poached this summer. I believe we have solid character and skill with our top guys, and i believe we have some solid character and skill knocking on the door.

Sather scares me sometimes. But, two ECF and a SCF in 3 years...
