It is crazy what a*difference a year can make for a hockey player. Hockey has ebbs and flows game to game, but sometimes year to year, as well. The Los Angeles Kings prospect pool has endured a lot of turnover in the last few seasons. As some old assets have come and gone, new faces have arrived and new players have risen.

2014-15 has been one of great import for the Kings pipeline, and due to that there are a number of big movers and formerly unranked prospects making strides.… read more

Sorry, I just don't get the Zykov love. I'd have Kempe and Shore ahead of him for sure, and I'd even consider Forbort and Miller above him. What exactly has Zykov done to show he's even improved over his draft year?

Kempe is my pick at number one. I don't think we got a star in him but I think we got a very solid second line forward with above average skills in most areas that is showing legit progress this season.

Miller btw is to low. The kids taken about three steps this year. McKeown hasn't, he should fall.

And it's nice to see LaDue finally getting some love around here. Kid is vastly underrated.

Porky #4, hmm.

Wow wow. That's weird.

I had him moved in my final draft. Hmmmmm change may be incoming.

Edit: He is in fact at #9 on my final list. I just sent an earlier draft by accident. Edits should be incoming soon to reflect that. My mistake guys!

I hesitate to move him higher than a guy like McKeown. Miller may be a bit of the flavor of the month right now, and he has done VERY well this year. However, this guy gave the Kings a handful last year with his defensive zone coverage and learning what he can and can't get away with from juniors to the AHL. He is improving, but no way is he as complete a defenseman as McKeown at his peak. Moving him ahead of McKeown would be shortsighted.

McKoewn's struggled this year, Miller is thriving. It should be reflected that Miller has overcome those struggles to be an AHL all-star on pace for 50+ points with a105 mph slapshot and the fastest skater. The dude has pure skills and a work ethic.

I'm not saying McKoewn doesn't, but he fell at the draft for a reason and he's struggled a lot this year. He seems to be playing better the last 10 games or so but his struggles should have earned him more than a one slot drop.

I thought this list was fantastic and full of solid information. A very well written and professional level article and Kudos to the author. I like the fact that some of our more talented prospects are placed a bit lower down the list then I might see them. They belong there when all is said and done in that the players ahead of them are having better seasons and or are farther along in their development. Next season the list will change and so will the placement of some of our more prominent prospects like it should be. I like the reviews on our defensive prospects the most in that the article mentions more than once that defense takes a long time to learn. Doughty has spoiled us in his stepping in and being one of the top 3 defensemen in the game (tops for me) and to some extent Voynov and Muzzin have too. Having the luxury of allowing our kids to develop will only pay huge dividends as time goes on and especially so on defense.

Excellent work and I think very fairly done.

Wait and see approach.

Again, let's not get ahead of ourselves with Miller. Very very very good year this year. But he has to A) repeat it, and B) show he can prove it at the next level as well.

McKeown has been asked to adjust things in his game this season and yes he has struggled but he has slowly come back around to a better second half.

Wait and see.

We've seen it before when a prospect has a strong season and then can't replicate it. Look at Leslie and Ebert from last season to this. It's healthy to debate who should be slotted where and why. It's fun to think about the future of these kids and how they'll help LA.

Some will rise (Mistele) and some will fall (Porky).

Agree that it's well written. Thanks for doing this.

Thanks for the kind words.

Everything should be squared away now. Prokhorkin at 9 where he should have been!
