No poll this time. Let's just discuss what has happened since the last thread. Rask played lights out - Canada won. Latvian goalie played lights out - Canada won. Quick was nearly perfect - Canada won. It appears that no matter how good a goalie is playing, or how good a skill level a goalie has, it doesn't matter. This Canadian team is just overwhelming their opposition to the point that stellar play of an opposing goalie is practically irrelevant. Discuss.

Rask was much better in Russia game than in Canada game. He wasnt all that hot against Canada. But ofc hot goalie alone cant win.

Hot goalie can still win against anyone. All they have to do is let no goals in.

Rask was nothing spectacular against Canada, on a good day he would have had both goals. First shot was a perfect shot but shortside should never be open for business on that play. Second went under his pad, he did not get down fast enough. Granted he was partially screened. But that was not an incredible performance, just a good one.

There is that rare occasion that a goalie is the sole reason for a victory. I saw it in the 1996 World Cup. Mike Richter stole Game 3 of the World Cup final against Canada. It was almost to the point where it was getting stupid that he was saving those shots. So it is possible regardless of pure scoring chances. But it's rare.

This 2014 team is just so controlling of the play from top to bottom and end to end that the other team rarely gets a nice rush. It wasn't until the USA game today that Price actually had to be alert. That tells you something about how Canada has controlled the game. I noticed that from the beginning and I just was never in a panic despite others looking only at the score and nothing else.

Lundqvist is going to have to play out of his 9 foot mind on Sunday for the Swedes to win. It will have to be vintage Mike Richter 1996. Maybe better. Because I personally don't know how Lundqvist can play better than the Latvian goalie and Quick today. And both of those games Canada won. It is nearly impossible to play that good.

Can we please not do this? We haven't won Gold just yet. We still have another very formidable team that we have to beat first.

Agreed. If there's anything we've learned since Nagano it's that i) anything can happen, and ii) a hot goalie can make a HUGE difference.

Nothing is pre-determined. Anything can happen. And these threads make us Canadians look like arrogant dicks and set us up for defeat.

. Latvian goalie played lights out - Canada won..

You sure did, by a whole goal!!!. Your sniper team is awesome. Any team that manages to score 2 goals against a hot latvian goalie deserves the hockey community's respect.

Might as well rest Lundqvist for the final.

3 hot goalies stopped Canada pretty good in their last 3 games.

Problem for those teams was their offense was nonexistent as well, thus Canada won.

If TC got anything less than damn near perfect goaltending themselves, then yes a hot goalie can stop them.

I'd posit Hasek would be very capable of doing just that. But that's probably it, one puck will eventually find its way behind a goalie against Canada.

illpucks, please refrain from making any threads between now and Sunday afternoon. Thank you. :p:

Richter was great in 1996 but CuJo was (quite a bit) less than great. IIRC the final score was 5-3. edit: both games 2 and 3 were 5-2 losses. Thats more than a hot goalie beating you. A hot goalie beats you 3-2, 2-1, or 1-0. Not 5-2.

Canada, please stop

Yeah, four more years of endless bragging if they win on Sunday, that alone should make anyone support Sweden. It is a thoroughly NICE country, Canada's middle name is actually, officially, Nice (between the English and French versions) - it's full of thoroughly nice people - the secret is that all arrogance and aggression is channelled into a little known team sport...

When the games are that low scoring it comes down to bounces.

Canada is a very talented tactical team with great goaltending... but that pretty much describes each of the Final Four.

You've one the last two games by ONE goal each. So thats, theoretically, ONE more save. I think Henrik can do it

Canada, please stop

Buddy, I'm pretty sure if I was to play in today's game, I would've scored 5 goals because I was born in Ontario, Canada. Don't you know how invincible being born in Canada makes you at anything hockey?

Canada is born with skates on dude. #wearewinter amirite?
