GDT: 2012 Spengler Cup Championship 6AM Dec 31 TSN - Canada vs HC Davos

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Pouliot scores for Canada.

2-0.

Cory Schneider not looking good for Fribourg.

Anyone out there?

3-1 Canada.

Matt Duchene scored for Canada and Kwiatkowski for Fribourg.

2 min left in the 2nd.

How is Diaz playing in the tournament?

Thanks for the updates.
I saw Diaz once. Easily the best defenseman on Davos. At least I thought.

He was a -2, but not his fault.

They sat him in game 2 though.

Not sure how many people are actually watching this tourney this year. But it's definitely very, very good hockey. That team Canada has assembled was absolutely dominant today against the best team in the Swiss League. It's almost an Olympic/World Championship calibre team. Fun to watch.

Swiss TV-commentators said that Spengler Cup contract of Diaz and Brunner (both EV Zoug during the lock-out) were only for 3 games. Since Davos will play 5 games (if they win tonight, they play the final against Team Canada, there are winning 3-2 after 2 periods), they were bench two times.

That's right, Diaz and Brunner asked for permission to play the semi and the final, but this wasn't granted. So they sat out in the semi and can now play in the final vs. Canada.

HC Davos wins their semi-final versus Vitkovice (the only team with no current NHLers, as far as I could tell - they had Oleg Sapyrkin and Nikita Filatov --- as well as Alexei Emelin's cousin Sergei Emelin).

Patrick Kane scored for Davos with 22-seconds left to go ahead 5-4, which they would hold onto.

Canada beat Davos 5-0 in the round robin, I'm sure it'll be a lot closer this time around!

6AM on TSN! Hope you guys are awake!!

Canada up to a crazy start.

2-0 in the first 5-minutes.

Patrice Bergeron and Derrick Walser scored for Canada.

Diaz with another weak play, he backed down and let Spezza use him as a screen, he looks really bad in his own zone today, he's alway a step behind and he looks overmatched most of the time.

That was a really strong team Canada put together. Really enjoyed watching the Spengler this year. Interesting type of hockey. And birds flying around the arena adds a certain charm too lol.
