Who is your MVP?

For me Its Howard. He was our most consistent and arguably highest performer. The last half of the season he went beast mode delivering quality start after start and collecting wins even when our offense was anemic.

Datsyuk.

Turned the season around at its darkest hour on the Northwest Canada trip.

Plus the stats
Led the team in goals
Led the team in points.
Led the team in plus/minus
Led the team in game winners
Led the PP in goals
Led the team in OT goals
Led the team in Faceoff wins by 225
Was 75 and 45 on shorthanded faceoffs. Nobody else even had 25 faceoff wins.
Was on the Ice for 69 of 124 goals. On the ice for just 30 (less than Brunner, who played zero PK, for instance).
His 30 even strength points was easily best on the team.
30 blocked shots. 2nd on team (forwards).
56 takeaways nearly twice as many as #2.

With the exception of Crosby...I'm not sure there's another center in the league who could steer this team into the playoffs.

Good as Jimmy is, i think there are 5-10 goalies in this league who could have done what Jimmy did.

Datsyuk is Detroits best and most valuable player, and it's not really even close, IMO.

Datsyuk
Howard
Z

Very close IMO. Hurts to pick one over another since they all were so vital.

I went with Z. he went to Switzerland to help Brunner with the transition. started the season at a league MVP pace. even when he had a rough stretch in the middle of the season he played hard. and when the team was on the brink of failing he put the team on his back and brought us to the playoffs with help of course.

While it's easy to vote for the goalie, I still went with Howard. To me, Datsyuk and Z to a large point cancel each other out. Not that I feel that we could win as much with just one of them, but their greatness and clutchness makes it difficult to pick one over the other. On the other hand, without Howard, we have Gustavsson, and Howard's play at times put the team on his back when Datsyuk and Z didn't have it going.

WTF does that even mean, dude.

These aren't voters inside you voting, are they?

I went with Hank. He had ups and downs, but he inherited the captainship nicely, and he's a very hard worker at both ends of the ice. His start and finish of the season seals the deal for me. Him and Datsyuk are very close.

i went with datsyuk. without him, i don't think the wings are even in position to make a last week playoff push

as cb pointed out, datsyuk led the team in pretty much all the important statistical categories.

Howhard played well mostly all season with a "D work-in-progress" in front of him. I feel the wings late surge wouldn't have meant much w/o JH keeping them in the hunt.

Datsyuk.

He alone was worth the price admission.

Several players, of course, are deserving of credit, but Dats more than anyone put this team on his shoulder and dragged them to respectability while even making it entertaining for jaded fans like me.

I'm in firm belief that Detroit would have been miles away from the playoffs had it not been for Jimmy Howard. And I also think this will be the year he proves his worth in the playoffs, that's for another discussion though.

Without Howard, the Red Wings are closer to winning the lottery than being in the playoffs.

With what we've seen from Gustavsson, we need to pray Jimmy can handle 65+ games next season.

I wouldn't mind seeing Petr Mrazek a few times next season.

I have a lot of arguments to vote for Howard. He's a major reason we are in the playoffs today. But Datsyuk was consistently good with a bunch of scrubs as linemates. And he didn't seem to lose a step playing pretty much a full season (KHL+NHL)

Pretty much this for me as well. Dats was one of the few bright points of this less than stellar season.

You could say that about Z and Datsyuk too.

Without any of the three of them, this team is gutter material. And we were damn lucky they were almost completely healthy the entire time.

That's why I won't/can't pick one. If any one of those three did not play the way they played this season, we would not be in the playoffs. Period. Howard played great most nights, amazing some nights, and badly 2-3 nights. Datsyuk and Zetterberg both played pretty well most of the time, turned it up here and there, and also went through their own quiet stretches. Though how much of that is being forced to carry Cleary/Abby I don't know.

If you'd asked me 10 games ago, I probably would have said Datsyuk. But Jimmy's play lately was just astounding. There were several games where we went down a goal, or were tied, or were only up by 1. When the other team came aknockin' Jimmy just closed the door. There were many times when he saved our lead or kept us close enough to tie it back up and come back to win. That's all on him. His performance in those games were pretty underrated too, because he only had to weather the storm for 10 minutes or so usually. But those 10 minutes were intense. The game could have been completely different, especially considering the Wing's struggles with offense.

Howard is a good goalie. Nothing better. Nothing worse.

That he's ahead of Datsyuk, one of the best two-way centers in the history of the NHL, is absolutely ridiculous.

It's funny how much this fanbase disrespects the talent and skill of Datsyuk.

For years, they said he was useless unless he produced. Within months, he was getting recognition as the best defensive forward in hockey.

A large portion of the fanbase doesn't think he should have his number retired.

Take Datsyuk off this team and let Flip be your #2 center, and opposition shuts down Zetterberg and the Wings are toast.

It will be interesting if Pavel leaves next year, especially if Holland replaces him as well as he replaced Lidstrom and Stuart.

We already know how this team does when Pavel isn't at full speed.

It means I can't say one is better than the other.

What?

LOL.
You can't say one is better than the other... so you go with Door #3, and say he was the best off all 3?

Solid logic:yo:

Usually, when people say cancel each other out.... it's like...Konstantinov was robbed of a Norris because 10 Detroit voters voted for Lidstrom... votes cancel each other out, allowing someone else to win.
