To be fair, winning the last game to secure the Southeast was a pretty hype moment. Especially Bruce's celebrations behind the bench after the game. That was an easy team to root for.

Weren't we in last place by Thanksgiving? We fired Hanlon, hired some baby looking guy, traded for Huet, who went pretty much unbeaten.

Ovechkin scored 65 goals and swept the awards.

We had to rely on Florida beating Carolina too. They beat them 4-0 in the last game despite getting 0 PPs versus Carolina's however many.

It was honestly the second best season of the past decade. It was when the rebuilding years were over and the contending years began.

Backstrom scores a GW own goal against the Pens with 12 games left and they looked like toast. Caps go 11-1-0 down the stretch but still if Carolina beats Florida their last game they win the division. The bananas part is they call 8 minors on Florida, none on Carolina, Florida wins in regulation anyway and the Caps just need a point the next day against Florida for the division.
