2008 Draft Redo top 20

1. Doughty
2. Stamkos (agree about the 1A/1B thing)- I'd be thrilled with either
3. Myers
4. Bogosian (not sure between 3 and 4- Bogo has an extra .5 season under his belt)
5. Pietrangelo (can't deny the potential)
6. Karlsson
7. Bailey (2 way stud)
8. Ennis (huge homer vote- been in love with the dude since we drafted him)
9. Wilson
10. Schenn
11. Filatov (still has potential)
12. Boedker
13. Eberle
14. Carlson
15. Hodgson
16. Markstrom
17. Tedenby
18. Del Zotto
19. Sbisa
20. Tikhonov/Adam/Deschamps/Voinov/Colborne/Boychuk/random promising youngster

It's really hard. In general, right now I'm favoring professional players. But it's too early. There are so many players I still want to see play (or play some more) at the pro level.

I know Bailey was picked 9th overall and he probably should not have gone that high but I am very happy with him as an Islander. He could be a 60-65 point player and a good number 2 center behind Tavares. He looks like he is finally getting comfortable in the NHL.

In the coming years I expect Pietrangelo to fall a couple. If Edmonton rebuild is successful Eberle will grow on people, likely in the top 10. I think Schenn sticks or rises a couple. Carlson will rise. And because I like to talk about my prospects, Karlsson will be the most aesthetically pleasing player from this draft.

When you look at the top 5 Dmen in this draft, although I think Doughty and Myers are sickening and I think theyll always be held on a little higher grade. I think in general with the wealth of defence in this draft I think its gonna be more of a "pick your poison" debate. And I think Schenn will emerge in that group but it may be more of a gradual development, he'll be the defence heavy guy of this draft, although I think the offensive guys or all around guys are more valuable a guy like Schenn likely will be a cornerstone player for a successful team.

just curious, now that tyler ennis has put up a ppg in the ahl and has 8 points in 7 games in the NHL where would ppl put him in the 08 draft? would he crack the top 10?

im betting hamonic would be taken in the first round if the draft was re-done. martin wouldnt be taken in the 5th either.

isles picks:
bailey: up or same
trivino: down
ness: down but not too much. still has potential
Hamonic: would be a first rounder
toews: havent heard much of him TBH so i cant say
niemi: a little lower
petrov: higher/lower/ around the same spot for a team willing to take the risk
donovan: definitely higher
ullstrom: same
martin: Higher but cant see him in the second round. third round? yes
poulin: higher
spurgeon: same or higher
dibo: hasnt done much in the ahl so same

isles definitely hit the homerun this draft. hamonic was an absolute steal, bailey has been great, martin is a surprise but he has looked great when up and is doing very well in the ahl and donovan may be something special. poulin is tearing up the QMJHL too.

The Isles have the potential to have hit a home run in this draft. I'm just as high on Petrov, Hamonic, Martin, and have read great things about Poulin, but Bailey is the only NHL'er right now.

Hopefully in a couple of years we can say they really did hit a HR

Considering Edmonton only had 5 draft picks I would say that they did an awesome job. I think the first four players they drafted are all absolute steals and could possibly be NHLers.

22. Jordan Eberle
103. Johan Motin
133. Philippe Cornet
163. Teemu Hartikainen
193. Jordan Bendfeld

What terrible rankings in this thread. FYI, Josh Bailey has been in the NHL for two years and looks like one hell of a player who gets better every day. Now try again.
