I think we’re at a point where you have to look past Phaneuf’s negatives a bit. He was still a very good player with a 1000-game career, which at this stage of the poll has to count for something.
People forget he finished 2nd in the Norris Trophy voting race in 2007-08. He absolutely peaked the highest out of the remaining candidates, and had a long enough prime that this has got to be him - he probably should have came off the board a little bit earlier.
