He did a lot of the things you are complaining about in that play he scored on. He quickly closed in on the defender which caused that bad pass that chytil pounced on. Then he rushed back to the blueline so he wouldn't be offsides. I saw him along the boards a lot earlier in the game as well and winning battles.

Yeah he did swipe the puck away. I kinda missed that. And he did win a battle later against the boards only to promptly give it up. But he did play better this game than in the first. I only hope that it continues to progress. Cause I don't see any improvement in his speed. And you need that to forecheck and get in people's faces. Good defensive positioning could compensate for that, but I'm not seeing that from him either. Bottom line,... if he wants to play his 18 , 20 minutes a game, top six minutes, he must improve his battle level.

Watching the highlights, Smith really made an all-time bad decision before his great play to set up the breakaway.

My condolences. I'm sure Homer Butch will be enlightening as ever.
Idk whos worse, him, Daneyko or the Bruins dude. Anytime I toss on a Devils game Daneyko will say the most egregious shit. A Devils player could slash a dude in his face and he'd be like "Ya idk about that call there I think that bloods fake, might be ketchup he really sold that call there"

Outside from a few hiccups, Miller has absolutely looked like he belongs out there.
You know what really impressed me? When Miller had his pocket picked by Barzal behind the net, but recovered quickly by swiping the puck off of Barzal's stick,... who would have surely had a golden opportunity in front of the net. This is something Coach Quinn raved about during training camp. Even if you beat him, he recovers quickly with that long reach of his.

After game one there was a LOT of talk here about how the experienced coach Trotz completely out coached Quinn, had his team prepared, etc etc.

So what happened tonight?

Daneyko isn't even that bad...

Cangelosi OTOH is the worst announcer in sports.

I think that the play-in round and the Rangers not looking prepared in the season opener, the very next game, a lot of us overreacted. That said I'm still not sure what to think Quinn, but the team looked absolutely night and day from Thursday night. I can't figure it out.

A combination of us coming ready to play, hungrier to win, and tactical moves. The forward support to the D was night and day. They moved up the ice in cohesion. The forwards really helped the breakouts. There was a forward all the time at the half wall on the side where the dman had the puck, to chip it forward and keep it moving or lifting his man's stick to keep it moving. It prevented the Isles from keeping the puck in our zone and disrupting our breakouts, which feeds their transition game.

I would go back to Miller-Trouba. Everyone had a rough game 2 nights ago but found their game tonight. Put Lindgren and Fox back as well. That top 4 could be deadly.
I think I'd leave Lindgren with Trouba at this point. Let Miller settle in without being tasked with playing on the top pair.

Daneyko doesn't bother me nearly as much as Goring. Homer Butch just whines about everything that goes against the Piles. I find him very unprofessional and irritating.

Buch said something during the postgame interview that might be more relevant this season than any other. He said it's easier when you score first, especially against a strong defensive team that could play strong defensively when they have the lead. But if they don't have the lead, they have to open things up and that's when you could score more goals. That certainly seems to be the case in these first two games.

Since there are no fans, momentum will be even harder to overcome.

Miller will get stronger with a couple off-seasons too. Have fun hitting the 22 23 year old KAndre Miller
Yeah. Right now he’s strong and lanky enough to absorb his well. In a couple years that will evolve into him giving out some big hits. Though he doesn’t seem to look for hits. Which is fine. As long as he can easily shove opponents of the puck, he’ll be fine.
