I honestly think it's more about sending a message than specific lines. Coach was pissed at the effort in game 1 and rewarded the "effort" guys in game 2, it won't stay that way forever

anyways pretty good game. wanna see laf get rewarded for his hard work, had a couple good shots and basically created the chance for Buch on that second goal even though he didn't get an assist.
still dont' really see him as a good winger for Panarin as they'll both ultimately want to possess the puck more but for now might as well get it going.

Miller looked a lot more confident and comfortable. I assume he got sheltered minutes but looked calm and slick out there at times. Also saw him close some gaps nicely defensively

very confident with the puck skated well completely shut down his side of the ice just so so smooth amazing seeing a guy that big skate like that. Led a few rushes plus 3 best CF% on the team I believe tonight. Just keeps getting better and better from the 2nd period of game 2 thru tonight
Would a Bouwmeester comparison be apt?

I figured a dog was behind all of Shayna's work.

But for real, I'm looking forward to the day that she takes over on the athletic. No disrespect to Carp who uh... has some awesome stories to tell about the days of yesteryear but shes a gazillion times more insightful.
I can never decide how I feel about her. I want to like her stuff but I always just feel like she's dumping a list of numbers, heavy on charts from Dom and light on insight/context. It's not just that I'm averse to stats; I really like the stuff Dom puts out (not even gonna try to spell his last name). Maybe I'm just biased by that first impression but that feeling nags at me whenever I read her articles.

Jumped over everyone else and swatted the puck out of the zone and out of danger on one play

Lidstrom was great at this with his stick. K'Andre would be innovating the game if he can counteract some offensive zone dump-ins that way. Hand passes are allowed in the d-zone after all.

Seriously, the skating... at NHL speeds... there was a brief glimpse, a very brief glimpse... for a split few seconds he was up against Barzal in flight, and ugh yeah so why wait around to flex that shit son?

Dude... skate bro... take it and skate. I would just power to the net like a forward instead of trying to pick the corner on the goalie. Give yourself the highest assurance on both ends. Most goals come from in tight. The way CLB plays, Jonesy ends up with more wrap arounds, take it hard to the net. If you get the turn over, and the other team is facing the wrong way, gun it.

you know there’s definitely some of that. I see a young vlad malakhov (isles/mtl days) too with the size and skating ability.

I think he’s really tough to make out he’s just so unique. When he gets the puck you can see he does have that offensive instinct that he wants to go do something with it so not entirely a stay at home guy either.

going to be so fun watching what he can become. He completely eats his side of the ice on the rush. Just forget it he eliminates it and trusts his skating to close the gap.

Looking at the advanced stats, the isles heat map is terrible. Rangers shut down the front of the net very effectively.

Also, the Chytil, PDG, Kakko line absolutely dominated when they were out.

phil DiGi is a really solid option for those two. Gives them some grind and a defensive presence.

like I’ve said for months I’m willing to sacrifice some offense for some defense. I would not mind at all seeing digi and Rooney in at the same time and gauthier would probably be the guy sitting for me at this point

Could you elaborate? Really curious!
He was getting hit a lot but stayed calm and collected, moved the puck forward instead of backward. There was one play where two Isles pinballed him. His big body is an advantage right now. He can shrug off hits. Unlike Hajek, who was intimidated by NHL physicality. But Miller will need to learn how to avoid hits, he wont be able to do it game in, game out. His reach and skating are also becoming apparent.

He looked lanky on Thursday. The hits he took tonight didn’t really affect him? I’ll admit I’m surprised — but that’s definitely good news.

Edit: Maybe an Ottawa Redden is a better comparison if you see more offensive upside.

One of Troubas best games comes when he has a Partner he can rely on what a coincedence. If Miller can play keep his level of play like he played tonight then Miller-Fox Lindgren-Trouba could be a decent top 4. just play them 60 miutes a night and youll be fine
