Well, when you have a sample of one people overreact to that one and only game. Also when you got embarrassed in the play-in round right before break it doesn't help. Not super rational but understandable.

Its still an incredible small sample size of games spaced out over MONTHS.

He was even pushing players and going aggressively into board battles, Kakko needs to stop being so timid

Lol hes played one game this season where his LW decided that he wanted to see what it would have been like if he had signed with the Islanders in the summer of 2019.

I know it would require this team to SCORE, but would you have been happy had Kakko picked up a few secondary assists where he didn't really do anything? Because thats what 2 of Jack Hughes' points are.

Because people need a reason to bitch about EVERYTHING.
Which is funny bc it’s not like we passed on Hughes to take Kakko.

We had the 2nd overall pick and Hughes went first. And we picked the far and away consensus 2nd overall ranked player.

People are really losing it with Kakko expectations. He was underwhelming his first season but he’s not a bust yet. He’s still a teenager. He’s also a bigger more awkward guy who’s coming into his size and learning how to play at the nhl pace and trying to improve his foot speed. In today’s nhl the transition is easiest for very fast skaters who played on NHL size ice who can keep up with the pace. Kakko got used to the extra space on European rinks. He also has a coach who refuses to let him get comfortable and constantly yanking him around.

Kakko is going to be fine.

Yeah Kakko's got enough talent that if he were spoonfed 20mins on the top line, expected not to play defense at all, and was working the half boards on the first PP unit he'd score points.

Jack Hughes gets a gift wrapped turn over from Carlo and throws an absolute muffin on net: OMG HES SO DYNAMIC

If Kakko did the same: WHAT A BUM! HE CAN'T FINISH!

I get that everyone needs to blow everything out of proportion because they looked terrible the other night but it's just nauseating.

Proposal: Fire Quinn. Package JJ and Howden for Ruff as HC. Because his teams look so good, and Hughes looks like Lemieux now, and he's had so much success as a HC. We're sorry we ever doubted you Lindy Ruff. Even though you were a terrible defensive coach for us, surely you'd be a great HC, and we were stupid not to realize. Please, baby, come back.

It's hard to blame fans for being disappointed when the entire media was selling this guy as being the most NHL ready prospect imaginable and literally say at the draft "Room for Improvement: None"

Why do you always bring up Hughes, a player we didn’t have the choice to draft?? You want to gripe about players taken after Kakko, fine, but we had the 2nd pick and Hughes went 1st. Take the Hughes talk to the around the league thread.

There are NHLers who are in that position. Star players too. That's one thing I will say advanced analytics really shows. Whose getting paid for PP points and losing games for you 5v5, versus the guys that are not. If you look at it that way, there are some really undervalued, and overvalued guys.

This place deserves a gold medal for revisionist history. Now, Ruff is a good coach again, Fast is a top 6 F that the Panarin line so desperately needs. What's next? Marc Staal is a solid minutes-eater who would complete this team?
I always thought Fast was the perfect fit on the opposite side of Panarin so jokes on you.

Not only that. People WANTED the Devils to take Hughes at 1 so we can get KK.

remember when Carp and so many others said there's no way JJ was brought in to play significant minutes? That was cool

People aren’t talking about Hughes because they wanted him over kakko. People are mentioning Hughes because like kakko he was awful last year and now appears to have taken a monster step in becoming the player people expected while there are some serious concerns that kakko still might not be there. Natural to look at their development arcs together.

Underwhelming is putting it nicely to be honest. Not saying he won't become a great player eventually however his rookie season was terrible. He needs to show improvement sooner than later otherwise he probably shouldn't be in the league.

Yes, true, but North American game Hughes' entire life vs Kaako 1 year of it.

You and Mikos, sure. Ed has had an issue with Kakko since before he was drafted and wants to harp on how he’s right. When it’s like .0001% of the people who argued Kakko over Hughes.

that excuse is not going to cut the mustard much longer. Frankly it’s a lousy one at this point. Played a year in the nhl.

IMO his issues are between the ears right now.
