Question: If you guys miss the playoffs this year will your draft pick be higher or lower than this years if you miss the playoffs? I fully expect you guys to do some retooling if you miss the playoffs thus leading to maybe another mediocre season? Nothing personal, but as a Canes fan. If you guys do end up missing the playoffs this off season I truly hope you guys are at the bottom of the standings next season....

There is no way in hell we'll be at the bottom of the standings next season if we miss this year. I fully get why you would want us to, but it's not going to happen.

Yeah, it's not going to be THAT drastic. I actually think we'd be better next year than this year, to be honest.

...wait a 2nd - this thread is meant as a april 1st joke, right?

If not... please hit your head into the wall as hard as you can so you will have an excuse for this failed excuse of a thread.

ps: If the Kings won't make this years playoffs, Lombardi's gonna call Ghostbusters.
Thanks in advance,

The Kings are looking at setting a record for points of a team missing the playoffs if it happens. So unless you think that will happen again your just being bitter.

Your first sentence makes no sense.

I am so sorry, Kings fans.

Dont sweat it. Every team has them including us. I think that if I were a Caniac I would want the Kings to miss the playoffs this year because we have had a very challenging year off the ice and this looks like the best chance for the pick we sent you to be higher then a mid 20 pick (at best) out of the two seasons. I would be hoping that we missed this year for sure.

Personally, no offense is taken. I'd want my team to have the highest possible draft pick, too. I'm assuming you meant next year's, not this year's draft pick. I think the Kings have a better chance of going far this year than next. We just don't have the cap space to keep all our our impending free agents and that's a lot of experience and leadership to lose. Toffoli and Pearson are going to get more money, Sekera is going to want a good paycheck, it's going to be hard to figure out the budget with the Voynov trial date set after July 1st, and we don't have forward prospects like Pearson and Toffoli ready and able to step in next season and start scoring goals while being defensively responsible. Look at Nick Shore, our best forward prospect this year. One of the top goal scorers in the AHL before being called up in January and his only goal scored this year came off a deflection off his skate. I just think it will be a challenge to be as strong a team next year as we are this year, even with our weaknesses this season.

If we miss the playoffs this season, you will probably get a better draft pick in 2016 than you would in 2015, though who knows by how much, maybe only by a couple of spots. (On the other hand, it's hard to imagine a Darryl Sutter team missing the playoffs 2 years in a row.) However, if the Kings make the playoffs this year and you get our 2015 1st round pick, you get an extra 1st round pick in a draft that many say is the best since 2003, and we know how that turned out. Admittedly though, I am not familiar with the junior players projected to go in the first round, except for the first few players.

An interested note about the 2003 NHL Draft:

11 Jeff Carter
13 Dustin Brown
14 Brent Seabrook
17 Zach Parise
19 Ryan Getzlaf
20 Brent Burns
23 Ryan Kesler
24 Mike Richards
28 Corey Perry

2003 was crazy deep. 2015 will be good too, not that good in all likelihood, but it's going to be solid.
