Additional transactions include:

Calgary traded Jim Dowd to Nashville in exchange for not selecting Tyler Moss, Dwayne Roloson, or Rick Tabaracci. This allowed Nashville to take Joel Bouchard from the Flames.

Chicago traded Sergei Krivokrasov in exchange for not selecting Chris Terreri.

Los Angeles traded Kimmo Timonen and Jan Vopat in exchange for not selecting Garry Galley.

Montreal traded Sebastien Bordeleau in exchange for not selecting Peter Popovic.

Philadelphia traded Dominic Roussel and Jeff Staples in exchange for not selecting Paul Coffey and a 7th-round pick (#175, Cam Ondrik)

San Jose traded Ville Peltonen in exchange for not selecting Tony Granato and a 5th-round pick (#116, Josh Blackburn)

St. Louis traded Darren Turcotte and future considerations in exchange for not selecting Jamie McLennan (future considerations was either St. Louis' highest compensatory draft pick in 1999 or a 2nd-rounder in 2000. St. Louis was awarded #40 in 1999 for losing Brett Hull, which was sent to Nashville to fulfill the original deal. Nashville traded that pick to Florida.)

Post-draft deals

Mike Sullivan was traded to Phoenix for a 1999 7th-round pick (#205, Kyle Kettles)
Uwe Krupp was lost as a free agent; Nashville received a compensatory draft pick in 1999 (#65, Jan Lasak)
Tony Hrkac was traded to Dallas for future considerations
Doug Brown was traded to Detroit for Petr Sykora, a 1999 3rd-round pick (#91, Mike Comrie) and a conditional draft pick (1999 #124, Alexander Krevsun)
Mike Richter was lost as a free agent; Nashville received a compensatory draft pick in 1999 (#52, Adam Hall)
Frederic Chabot was claimed off waivers by Los Angeles
Al Iafrate retired

From what I recall, Nashville and LA made numerous side deals in order for the Predators to select Frederic Chabot at the 1998 expansion draft. In doing so, it guaranteed that the Kings would not be able to lose another goaltender at the following expansion draft which was held in 1999 for the Atlanta Thrashers.

In addition to sending Kimmo Timonen and Jan Vopat to the Predators, the Kings also sent Marian Cisar and Vitali Yachmenev to Nashville. THe Kings made these deals in order to protect a number of assets as well, namely Jere Karalahti. Years later, the Kings would send Karalahti to the Predators when things weren't working out for him in LA.

No wonder Poille has been with the Predators since day one. He got a valuable player out of that deal in Kimmo Timonen.

Milan Hjeduk on the board for Colorado, interesting.

Colorado sent a 5th-round pick in 1998 to Nashville (#138, Martin Beauchesne), but I'm not sure for what. There's two different reports, but it's possible that it was part of a "future considerations that means don't take Hejduk" or possibly "future considerations that means take Krupp".

If anybody is interested this year the Nashville predators' website will release a three part video about the draft for our 15th anniversary. Should be very interesting for those of us who haven't found a lot of info about the '98 expansion draft.

In the Predators 15 year anniversary video, Poile says Bordeleau was actually traded to the Preds so Nashville would take one of their other goalies. They got lucky with Vokoun  .

Thanks these are very intresting.

Seeing Esa Keskinens name on these puzzles me. He was also 99 and 00 lists. He was drafted by Flames in 85 and never played a single game in there. In late 90´s his career was winding down and actually retired after 99-00 season. I don´t see any logical reason why Flames still had his rights. I know that there was inside joke considering Reijo Ruotsalainens rights. Was this similar kind or is there something that I don´t understand.

Edit. Lot of other weird names like Mika Välilä who had been played for years in lower divisions so basically there is something that i don´t understand about the rules of that time. :)

more editing. edit. Okay I checked myself and I didn´t know that the teams owned drafted european players rights until they were as old as 31. That explained few odd names. Still does not explain Keskinen.

Is there a link you could provide for this video? Would love to watch it, especially if he discusses the process of trading for Timonen. Seemed like a case where the team trading for him knew more about the player than the team who held his rights.

Thats a really interesting snapshot of the league at that time, a lot of names jumping off the page for sure.
