Ok, I just need to get this out of my head because I can't stop thinking about how many similarities there are between this team and the 1994 team. I'm not saying we will win the Stanley Cup this year , just talking about similarities between many players.

Hear me out:
Goalies:
Shesterkin = Richter: Both are average size goalies with amazing athletic abilities. In 1994 Richter had one of his best seasons with 42 wins, Shesterkin is having a Vezina type season now. He was also saving the Rangers butt in the playoffs quite often that season just like Shesterkin is doing now. Even in terms of age, Richter was 27 that season, Shesterkin is 26 now.
Healey = Georgiev: close enough

Defense:
Trouba = Beukeboom: Yes, Trouba had better production in the regular season. But in general, what Trouba is doing now in the playoffs with those timely hits is reminding me a lot of what Beukeboom did for NYR in 1994. Neither is exactly fast but mobile enough to be in the top 4.
Fox = Leetch: Leetch was probably a better skater but in terms of joining the rush and really helping the forwards on a consistent basis, I think those two have a lot in common.
K.Miller = Karpotsev: I do think K.Miller has more upside in the future, but for now its an ok comparison. Both big , mobile defenseman who can surprise you on the offense end.
Lindgren = Lowe: Yes, I'm going there. Lindgren has been just such a tough, tough defenseman for us. When he is out of the lineup, we dont look nearly as good defensively. Lowe had that kind of amazing leadership impact on the NYR defense as well.
Schneider = ???? : I dont have a good comparison for him to be honest. He has a lot more upside but he is obviously no Zubov.
Braun = Lidster: Nothing wrong with that...need a #6 like that.

I wish we had a guy like Zubov on this team! DeAngelo would have been it if we kept him...

Forwards:
Kreider = Graves: This is an easy one. So many similarities here. Both play a very similar style of causing havoc around the net and scoring off tips and rebounds. Both bring toughness and leadership. Oh and here is the kicker: Graves had a career high 52 goalies in 1994 and Kreider has an equal career high of 52 goals this season!
Zibanejad = Messier: Zib is not there yet, I know. Messier was special. But I think the leadership Zibanejad is showing now can in time propel him to some new heights we havent seen yet. Both dynamic centers who can do it all, score, pass, dangle and be tough when needed.
Panarin = Kovalev: Both Russian. Both can dangle. Both enigmatic at times and lacking consistency at times. Panarin is the better playmaker. Kovalev the better dangler. Both are inconsistent in the scoring department.
Lafreniere = Larmer: Lafreniere is not on Larmer's level yet. But I see some style similarities. Larmer was a great goal-scorer and I think Lafreniere can get there. Both play with a real confidence and smarts. Both have a dangerous shot.
Copp = Tikkanen: Yes, there is only one Esa Tikkanen. But in terms of style, I think Copp is not far off. Both are very good all-around players that bring a bit of everything to the table, toughness, skill, leadership.
Chytil = Amonte: Clearly, Chytil is not there yet, he is very young. But in terms of style, I see some similarities for sure. Both average size centers who are very shifty and good playmakers. Amonte was also a young kid in 1994 at the age of 23. Chytil is 22 now.
Vatrano = Noonan: close enough
Strome = Nemchinov: Nemchinov was more physical and probably better defensively but cant find a closer comparison.
Kakko = G.Anderson: I think there are some similarities here but Kakko is still developing. G.Anderson was at the end of his career in 1994 so in terms of production they are not far off. Both love to drive to the net and use their size.
Goodrow = Olczyk : Goodrow probably has a bit more skill but in terms of style, I think its close. Two tough all-around centers.
Motte = Matteau: Motte does remind me of Matteau in that he seems to play better in the playoffs. Motor doesn't stop running for both.
Reaves = Kocur: obvious reasons :)

That 1994 team also had MacTavich. We dont really have a guy like that...

I'm sure not everyone will like my comparisons. But just wanted to show there are a lot of similarities between the 2 teams.

The 94 Cup team also missed the playoffs the year before. Different circumstances but still
