I would have Hasek as #1 on this list too. Most dominating player in the leauge for a 5 year period after Lemieux retired. IMO he had bígger impact on his team than Yzerman did.

But would you pick Hasek 1st overall if he only came to North America in 90-91? I'd be hard to justify that when Yzerman is putting up over 100 points in the meanwhile.

well, hasek is ranked a lot higher amongst goaltenders than yzerman is amongst centers, despite playing a lot shorter time in the NHL

hasek gave your team a chance to always win, yzerman never won before his team was around, even if he was a super big part of it, you always pick the GOAT (or atleast top3) compared to the ~8-10th center imo

I'd easily take the 20 quality seasons over the 10, even though the ten might be a bit better.

That said, I would pick Hasek and made him my starter much younger (and trade Belfour for a king's ransom).

Hasek and yzerman was a toss up, so I went with a guy who was 6 all time in scoring 3 cups a conn smyth and 19 years as Detroit's team captain, great offensively and later in his career changed his style to become one of the most defensive forwards. I'm a sabres fan but to me having yzerman and all he accomplished trumped haseks, but both great and hall of famers.

On an all-time list Hasek is the better player, but if you're drafting between the two to build a franchise even if you knew that Hasek might end up being the better player Yzerman would likely be the better overall pick.
