It's surprising the Kings left Bob Nevin off the original list, only protecting him after they lost a player. Nevin would be L.A's leading scorer the upcoming season with over 70 points. He was 36, so wouldn't have been part of a long-term plan, but might have made a good captain and mentor to the younger players. Of course, he probably didn't want to leave sunny Los Angeles.
Aside from that, there was nothing but scraps available in that draft. The amateur draft was a different story. If they had used their first three picks on Gillies, Trottier and Simmer, theyd have something to build on.
