The Kings won't be playing any bad teams til April 6, and after last nights performance the 7-3-0 last 10 seems like a misleading statistic considering 3 of those games we're against Calgary.

Sometimes a teams record is skewed by the skill of the teams they have had to play along the way...is this the case?

You do realize that most playoff teams are in the playoffs because they beat the non-playoff teams? If you beat the "bad" teams, you just need to "tread water" against the playoff teams. The kings are still built for the playoffs. They just need to get in to have a shot.

Kings will be fine with their upcoming schedule. There will be more losses in the games ahead. Wins too. Does it really matter which teams the kings beat to make the playoffs?

I suppose it doesn't, however I would have rather played the Sharks or Phoenix more earlier in the season. The schedule has just been extremely favorable so far with the matchups and I wonder if it will affect things when they are playing division rivals for the next 4 games. (5 if you include last nights.)

Not sure if it's the same deal for other teams.

Well, Detroit is down 5-2 to Calgary in the third. I would rather see the kings beat the bad teams than lose to them. ;)

Having a favorable early season schedule (only 3 games against division rivals so far, getting alot of games against teams such as Calgary early) can inflate your record a bit, causing overconfidence early on and demoralization when losing much more difficult games against playoff contenders midseason, because certain issues with the team weren't addressed simply because they had a decent streak against subpar teams.

With that said, if they beat the Sharks tomorrow their loss against PHX was just a fluke from being tired because of the back to back.

You can always be a Canucks fan and get to play the weak teams several more times per season.

And it really doesn't matter where the points have come from, we have them. And because of that we basically only need to play .500 hockey with this tough part of the schedule to make the playoffs. Not to mention in the wild wild west your position changes almost nightly unless your Chicago or Anaheim. So were all those points from teams that low or not when they were played?

In a normal schedule, I would agree with this. Things are all wonky with the shortened season right now.

The Kings have had nothing remotely resembling a favorable schedule early, 4 out of the first 15 on the road is brutal, especially considering that's nearly 1/3rd of the shortened season.

As for divisional games, those usually end up a wash, especially in the Pacific that has no weak teams. It's not easy to make up ground no matter who you play anymore, the amount of 3 point games this year is ridiculous for such a small amount of games played at the halfway point.

Early in the season the Kings pretty much stomped Phoenix when they weren't playing the third of 3 games in 4 nights. Same goes for St. Louis, STOMP, STOMP, STOMP. Outplayed Detroit by a significant margin in a couple of games. The Kings are beating their share of quality teams.

Nice test coming up in the next little stretch.

Exactly correct.

Ah, I feel you can over-think these things, especially in a shortened season. Your sample size is extremely small.

Additionally, the league has more parity than ever. Just look at the Western Conference. It's going to be nearly that tight for the duration of the season. Calgary still has enough talent to beat Chicago on a given night. (At least, before April 3 they will.)

A win is a win is a win. If they beat San Jose, are you going to make mention of the fact that San Jose, were it not for January, is the worst team in the league? You can really over-think these things.

The schedule is going to lose us more games over the next few weeks than the skill of our opponents. We've beaten "good" teams. Beat Anaheim, Nashville, Detroit, St Louis, Vancouver, Phoenix. We're right up there with the best in the league and a lot of statistics show it. Stop worrying.

San Jose has two wins in regulation in over the last 18 games If I am correct...

So is San Jose the worse team in Hockey ?

Let me get this straight, 60% of the Kings points have come from 73% of the conference and the other 40% of their points came from the other 27% of the conference. Astounding!

The Kings are in 4th place. That is all that matters.

Can only beat who you are forced to play, imo. Can't hold the schedule against the Kings.

Reminds me of when people try to cheapen the playoff run!

"18 of 30 pts from bottom 11 teams"

So just over half of our points are from the bottom 11 of 14 teams.

Meaning 12 of our points come from the top three teams. I'm okay with that.
