Was yesterday...

The ghost of Eric Belanger was with tanner yesterday :)
This memory was one of few before 2012 that I held onto dearly,
Luckily now we have two cups to hang our hat on.

Still a great comeback & still a great moment in our team history

I would post a link but I'm typing this on my phone.

I was there as well. For some reason it always reminds me of the carefree days of being in college and skipping class to make the drive up on a whim.

The video reviews on the 2nd goal and the GWG added to the tension, especially in the days before you could furiously text with friends.

I was there and did NOT leave early.

I do recall a number of Wings fans leaving at 3-0. Can't help but think a few of them didn't find out what happened until the following morning.

That was probably the lone highlight for the Kings from 1995 up until 2012.

The Kings released a video for season ticket holders to celebrate that season, expecting big things to happen the following season. Obviously that didn't happen, but here's a fun look back at that season and that series.

15 years? I was there too...in 209. With my now ex. With about 6 mins to go, she got up to go - I thought she was thinking of leaving - she knows I would not do that though. So I said "we're not leaving until the horn goes off 4 times" (seriously said that) and she said, "i'm just going to the restroom". The horn did indeed go off 4 times! Epic.
I was also at the miracle on manchester as well. Not bad, for averaging about 10 games a year - to be at those 2.

15 years!?!

Here's my story for that night - I worked for an alarm monitoring company. Worked until after the games would start but would record them on a VCR in my room at home (19 yrs old, live w/ parents).

Anytime this happened, it's always the same thing - get home, take the recording tape out, pop a new tape in (just in case the game is still going/OT) and start watching the first tape on 2nd VCR downstairs.

I still remember swapping tapes out 3 times that night because I would catch up quickly by F'Fwding through commercials/intermission.

And now we have the glorious DVR...

It wasn't this particular game, but the series winner by Deadmarsh was like the most fundamentally perfect goal I've ever seen. The LD got the puck after it was dumped in by a Red Wing, passed it over to the RD, who passed it up to the RW cutting across, who passed it to the C going down the right side, the RW drove the net, the C shot the puck creating a rebound, and the LW was driving the net and put the rebound home.

All 5 guys touched the puck, every pass clicked in stride, from D, to F, to the net. All seeming to happen in slow motion because it was so fluid.

what happened in 94 and 95?

Man, I really like those purple jerseys. She shield logo needed to become the crown - but why do they keep that lame font?

and Karalahti #8? good times...

I thought Karalahti was the next big thing. I remember coming back home from college for winter break. I hadn't seen much hockey that season and my first impression of Karalahti was this game: http://www.hockey-reference.com/boxscores/199912300LAK.html

He scored a pair of goals with MacInnis-esque blasts and played more minutes than Blake. I decided at that moment that I needed to get him in the keeper league that I had just joined. I gave up some other older rookie named Brian Rafalski for Karalahti. [/coolstorybro]

I also have distinct memories of going to game 3 of that series. It was an Easter Sunday and I drove up to my friend's place in Northridge. We couldn't find anything that was open since it was Easter and eventually ended up at a mall. Ended up killing time by watching a mediocre romantic comedy with Ashley Judd and Hugh Jackman: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Someone_like_You_(film)

It's hard to believe it's been that long.

I still have a authentic Karalahti jersey that has the 2000 patch on it.
And since I feel nobody will ever wear that number again it isn't going anywhere.

15 years? Damn it goes so fast. I remember watching it in college and my roommate's girlfriend thinking I was crazy while I was jumping up and down on the couch celebrating. Good times.

Jere Karalahti wearing #8 isn't less memorable than Steve Kelly wearing #11.

Mick McGeough, what an ass of a ref that guy was.

Scott Thomas, now there's a blast from the past

I figure Gretzky scoring goal #802 was a monumental moment. And that was probably the last big moment the Kings had with Gretzky and as we all know there were really no memorable moments for the team until 2001.

Unless you consider Larry Robinson giving Bill McCreary the big bird a significant moment in Kings history.

Too bad Karalahti had to be such a stupid degenerate, he had the attributes to be a damn good dman on the Kings but he blew it all away. Believe it or not, Karalahti is still an active player.

This makes me so proud of my Deadmarsh jersey. Earlier this year I went to New York for the 3 games there and I got more complements about that jersey from fans in all 3 arenas.

wow 15 years.

I was a senior in high school, it seriously feels like a lifetime ago.

I really wonder what could have been with that team, I think if Smolinski had buried that open net late in the 2nd period of Game 7 vs. Colorado the Kings may have taken it all that year.

Unfortunately they lost Robitaille that summer and then traded Stumpel and Murray for Allison and the depth up front was pretty crushed, and then ofcourse the injuries happened.

Frenzy on Figueroa - BEST MOMENT

I was there, with my 11 year old son, who was/is a major fan. At the end of the second period, my son started to cry. He loved the Kings and did not want to see them lose. I put my arm around him and said: "Son, it is the score at the end of the THIRD period that counts".

I thought to myself - Are you being the biggest corny dad in the history of the world? You may have just made a big mistake in talking to your son that way - he could be mighty disappointed.

When the Kings came back in the third period and pulled the game into an OT victory, I was ecstatic, as was my son. I was one of the fans who cheered at the top of my lungs in Staples, on the sidewalk and from the car all the way down Fig and onto the freeway.

That game was my favorite moment of all time in spectator sports, including watching both Stanley Cups won by the Kings, which I watched in Staples with my son at my side. :handclap::nod::D:clap::hockey::win::cheers::5::highclap:

Being at the Frenzy was incredible. I was in the PR seats and I remember being able to see that disputed goal on the TVs in the suites above. People in our section starting chanting "GOAL! GOAL! GOAL!" and pointing toward center ice. When they announced it was good, the crowd went bananas. Finishing off the Wings in Game 6 was oh so sweet.

We forget how dominant that team was in that era and I remember going to the playoff games before that series when we got blown out of the building by them. There was a lot of hope that the Kings were finally turning the corner with guys like Palffy and Deadmarsh leading the team. We took the Cup champion Avs to Game 7 that year but then the team fell apart when Deadmarsh and Allison ultimately got hurt. It felt like DT had us on the right track but we came up just short of getting over the hump because he could never seem to get us a top notch goaltender.

I always felt like there was some symmetry between Belanger's reaction in the Frenzy to Amart's reaction when he scored the Cup winner in 2014. Both guys skated away from the left side of the net looking for someone to celebrate with as the crowd roared.

Yup, if I remember correctly they would have played a very mediocre St. Louis team with a dreadful Roman Turek in the 3rd round. A team that the Avs easily manhandled on the way to the finals. We were very close to winning it all that year, or at least making it to the finals. I remember Glen Murray hitting the crossbar early on, that would've made all the difference if that went in.

Fun story - you need to post more.

I've been lucky enough to be in person for 802 and this game. 2 things that I remember the most about this game is my friends and I talking about who the Kings should get rid of and who they should sign in the off season. I believe we all wanted Alex Kovalev. The other thing that was memorable was we were in the 300's, the Kings had just won and all the fans were exiting the game waiting to go down the escalator. There was a Red Wings fan standing waiting to go down and a man in an electric wheel chair behind him and the man in the wheel chair started ramming into the back of the Wings fans legs. The Wings fan was trying to laugh it off but it was an awkward situation.
