I don’t but he is clearly prioritising less creative and skillfull players in key roles for the sake of risk aversion. We also are not eager to attack and rush the puck up the ice in the same way we were last season. Seems like Quinn has instructed the team to ”not lose the puck in dangerous areas” so we avoid taking risks with the puck, work it round the outside and play it safe.

Lafreniere and Kakko have not been given the opportunities they deserve this season. They are both used in strange ways and probably instructed to dump the puck in and work it round the outside instead of making instinctual, creative plays. Both deserve a chance to play with Zibanejad.

It's on the entire team. Kakko on another team might 1) have more assists because he would be passing to professionals this year and 2) might have a few more goals as those said professionals would set him up better.

I am just saying that players doing what he has been doing lately seem to have it easier and its no big deal for them.

Quinns system in a nutshell

Frankly even dumping the puck on a line change always seemed ridiculous to me. Pass between defenders, one staying behind the net, while forwards change or have them skating backward to the goal line — and then charge up. Dump-and-chase is really for beating the trap. Doesn’t make sense otherwise.
