Fantilli didn’t show me a lot last night. Admittedly, I haven’t seen the CBJ this season.

Even though Leo has been off a bit to start the season, I think his size and skating will bring more to the Ducks.

Not saying Fantilli won’t be good. Right now I see him as an upgraded Gauthier, than a Tkachuk type; which was tossed around here before the draft.

I wonder if the NHL would alter the box score by putting defensemen after the forwards. They already put the goalies after both forwards and defensemen. Also they have the skaters identified, which should make it easier. I like the many more stats on this page than ESPN's, but I love the fact ESPN separates forwards from skaters from goalies.

tbf, I don't think lots of top-end draftees have come out like gangbusters early. Carlsson and Fantilli are in the same boat, both had injuries last year and are still acclimating to the NHL level. I just want a coach who is willing to allow our youths to maximize their talents than stifle them.

Not really though. Fantilli is on a team that scores more goals and has more offense around him , yet their numbers are nearly identical.

That makes it more promising for Leo who is on the worst offensive team in the league . Yes even the Sharks score more goals .

We did witness the Ducks beating Columbus. Both teams suck as they both have 14 points. Both teams are in the bottom half of the league in goal scoring. Both teams have bad PP units. Columbus volume shoots from the point better than we do, but that doesn't mean their offense is much better.

I'm one of the few that wanted Leo over Adam before the draft and it doesn't bother me to state they're in the same place at the moment. I'm okay with both players being stars and want more stars in the NHL to make it more exciting for the league. Right now, they're both in the same place: injured last year as rookies and still cutting teeth.

I have felt for awhile that teams rush top 3 draft picks to the NHL too soon and many would benefit from more time in the minors. Personally, I think a player in the NHL in their teens should be undeniable such as Bedard. I think Carlsson did fine last year but I believe he would have been better served in Europe or the AHL hopefully dominating and developing.

When teams are bad and the NHL team is not trying to improve like the Ducks, it doesn't make any sense to bring top end young players to that environment unless they are truly ready. It seems like PV believes players develop best in the NHL but that hasn't worked so far.

I’m not sure it is a PV thing or a top pick thing, when not going to go back to college.

Making concessions to get an ELC signed and playing in the NHL, or not, has some ramifications. If Briere had signed Gauthier sooner and played him, he would probably be a Flyer.

I don’t think Gauthier should be playing on the Ducks right now. He should be in the minors tearing it up. But getting him probably meant giving some assurances, even if it is not the best route to go.

I think Gauthier has been more snakebit than anything. He's looked fine in most of his recent games, has had some good looks. Has hit some posts as well over the course of the season. Hopefully it's one of those situations where he gets the first and settles down a bit.

The AHL wouldn't hurt, but he needs to learn how to beat NHL defenders and goaltenders at some point anyways. Might as well work things out while the team has zero expectations. It's not like we have tons of high end wing depth waiting to supplant him or anything.

I was curious if they had some verbal agreement about it, or the ducks just want to keep him happy. I like cutter a lot, I just think he would open the ketchup bottle if he went down and tore it up for a little bit.

The other option is Verbeek is purposely using the NHL as his development level. Last year, we had several first time rookies in the NHL: Carlsson D+1, Minty D+2, Luneau D+2, Zell D+3, and LaCombe D+4. Zell started in the AHL and became an all-star there. Cutter is in his D+3 season. It just seems to follow suit for Verbeek.

Based on his past history with the Flyers, (if I understand correctly that he didn’t want to return to the NCAA), getting him signed and playing him 1 game last year was probably an agreement Verbeek made.

I think that burned a year off his ELC, but not sure.

I think this is the way we have to look at it based on the evidence. Regardless of his statements, Verbeek has not sheltered the young players and rushed many to the NHL. It seems his actual belief is that players develop better in the NHL. I definitely do not agree with that idea.
