11th draft pick or bust.......

how in hell are they making the play-offs next year?
the goalies, nabakov, poulin, and nilsson. thats a terrific trio right there man
the defense, visnovsky, hamonic, de haan, strait, and two rookies. that doesnt make me too confident.
top line, tavares, okposo, and___________?
please feel free to fill in the above blank with the name of a proven 30 goal scorer that will sign with long island.

next season has "top 5" draft pick written all over it.........already.

People don't realize the entire bottom 5 is gonna be in tank mode the entire final 6 weeks next season because of this McDavid guy...we're gonna be the only team without incentive to lose so I doubt we have to worry about Buffalo getting McDavid unless they win the lottery...even with zero changes this team is simply not the worst team in the NHL...my guess is Buffalo will easily end up dead last again next season and get McDavid on their own anyway.

I agree, it feels strange to think about being terrible again next year to get a good draft pick. I'll take the high pick this year and begin rooting for a big turnaround next year. Hopefully well be sending Buffalo a pretty late pick.

If its so important to have this pick, maybe we should trade Tavares for the 1st overall and some really great prospects like Collberg before next years draft and rebuild forever.:sarcasm:

Must admit, I want a top 3 pick this season but watching guys like Lee and Strome doing damage makes it kind of hard to feel like that. Lee really looking comfortable on the wing. JT-KO-Lee next season? I know we are a bottom 5 team right now but a lot of our youth starting to come around finally.

Very unlikely the Islander can finish 11th, they basically have to gain 10 points on 11th spot(NJ Devils) and jump 6 teams

i dont see why people are hoping for more loses this year. they should be hoping for as many points as it takes to finish with the 11th draft pick.
if the pick is 11th or worse, garth has no choice but to give it to buffalo. 10th or better, garth gets to decide whether to give it to buffalo or give them next years first round pick. i personally, dont want garth making that decision.

i just dont trust him when it comes too making important decisions.

exactly, I would say unless we are in the top 3 to trade it

If the pick is 6-10, give up the pick. It won't be that tough a sell to the fanbase knowing that 2015's first round is much deeper and therefore a much more valuable asset.

A question for you and everyone who advocates giving up this year's pick if it's 6-10 pick:

Is next year's draft so much better than this year's to make a #6 pick this year is more valuable than, say, a #15 pick this year? Or is everyone assuming we'll be picking in the top 10 again next year?

I know almost nothing about the pools for players for the next two drafts, but it seems like we're very likely to pick in the top four this year, and that should get us a really good player who could help sooner than a player from the 2015 draft.

I'm not very concerned about a lack of depth in this year's draft when we're picking 1-4, although I do wish we still had a second-round pick in 2015. I think we could end up missing that pick as much as whatever first-round pick we give up. And I'd to think that if we decide to give up the 2015 pick that Snow and company will try to save face by making sure we have the pieces in place to crawl out of the Metropolitan cellar next season.

I said Im hoping for a playoff spot next year. I never said I thought we would get it.

I'm catching up on the draft this year and looking more at players outside the top 3. And it appears to me that there might be a top 3 (Ekblad, Reinhart, Bennett) and then a very good 2nd tier of 3 (Dal Colle, Draisaitl and Fleury). After that top 6, IMO players start looking more like 2nd line talents (with the possible exception of Ehlers, but he seems like a bit of a risk with his lack of size, playing in the Q (slight risk factor) and being a year older than most other prospects).

So I'm starting to think, top 6 keep the pick, 7-10 let Buffalo have it.
