Somehow kakko in in a worse ppg pace than he was last year even if he is playing better defensively

lafreniere I am just floored by how little he’s done. He’s a guy that sneezes and gets 2 pts a night

Neither has sniffed PP1 which is like dead last at this point in the league. Just a weird coach

At least Kreider seems to be coming out of hibernation more and more.

Zero issue with how the entire team played tonight. Everyone put forth a strong effort and the Islanders had very little zone time. It's a real change this year to see how quickly we're stopping forechecks and cycling from evolving in our own zone. And the forwards are generally in a decent spot to facilitate a break out. Which is also a big difference than years past.

It's very apparent that when Zib is unable to drive and maintain possession that line has a very hard time generating consistent offense and zone time.

I think Panarin's east west style is a detriment to playing with Kakko and Laf right now. Both those kids needs to go N/S and keep moving their feet.

In a game like tonight, we needed more shifts where the team established a cycle and created traffic and point shots. But Panarin often sets a tone where suddenly everyone gets a little too fancy. We need all the guys going N/S with two exceptions, Fox and Panarin.

Just as an experiment, I would like to see a line of Kakko/Rooney/Laff.

Our only two possession centers are Chytil and Zib. It's going to be a struggle until we have center depth.

But again, i have no complaints with how the team played and their effort. The only play that bugged me was when they seemed to stop playing on the delayed penalty that led to the 2nd goal. But otherwise, I'll gladly take this effort every night.

And if nothing else, just to give him less minutes for more rest until he feels himself again.
The problem is our center depth is so shitty you have no choice but to play him big minutes and hope he gets on track. Who’s taking Mika’s minutes? Strome? Howden? Rooney? Jesus?

At this point, Mika is hurting the team more than he is helping it. I would move him down a line or two. Does it matter if those guys take a few of his minutes? We are losing regardless, should we just keep losing while Mika drags us down?

Im gonna give props to Varlamov. One of Panarin or Zib need to score on their 1 on 1 chances early in the third and neither did, I knew we would lose after both were stonewalled

Agreed on everything

We played a pretty good game. Varlarmov was the best player on the ice, and we couldn't score when we needed to (one of those breakways had to go in). We also didn't do a good enough job getting to the few juicy rebounds he left.
The bottom 6 continue to do the little things well but don't generate much in the way of legit chances, the top line was just a mess (Kreider was pretty good) - as was the PP.

The D played a good game. Yeah, mistakes cost us in the end but your bottom pairing D will do that from time to time.

I'd say we win that game 6-7 times out 10

how about Mika with 7 straight or is it 8 games without a goal and 1 point which came on an empty net... that is more alarming than Howden not scoring in 20. Kid is a grinder at this point. Its not surprise.
I think you want even your grinders, including the kid who is talked about like 3C of the future to play at more than a 4 goals and 10 point pace.

Mikas struggles are well documented. Doesn’t change the fact that Howden is also a problem.

One last thing... whoever gets put on that Panarin and Strome line.... they have to do two things, go in and dig a puck out IF it EVER gets dumped in. (almost never with that group). And then that forward has to quickly transition back to the third man high because Strome is NEVER 3rd man high. And Panarin is sometimes first forward back but that's usually the result of him attempting something fancy inside the offensive blue line that results in a turnover. So, if you're looking for Kakko to score tons of points on that line... it's likely not going to happen unless he's getting secondary assists. Kakko needs to play with a Chytil or a center that can keep possession and cycle downlow. That's Kakko's strength. When Chytil comes back Kakko needs to be stapled to Chytil's wing.
