I understand why that would be the case, but the problem is it comes with a corollary, even if it's one that's unintended - it smacks of contempt for the fans. The media, especially the local media, is in theory at least the voice and in some senses the representative of the common person in the street. However badly it performs that function that's its traditional role - to ask the questions that others cannot and obtain some level of accountability on their behalf. So when Sweeney and co. refuse to give honest answers with any substance to the media and actively look down on them, in a very real way that's also implying that the fans have no right to know either, no reason why they should be included in or given to understand why the organization acts in any particular way. We call the shots, you just watch. And pay.
I know the Boston sporting media, like most in the modern world, has done itself no favors and earned anything but respect for all sorts of reasons. But their basic role remains and as a conduit between franchise and fan with any sort of critical lens there is no alternative - in-house things like Behind The B, as entertaining as they are, are essentially carefully crafted propaganda. So I think Bruins management do themselves and us a disservice in being as dismissive of them and reluctant to explain anything as they are.
