Boys it was one game against the isles. The isles played more, they had no signifcant turnover, and every guy has been playing their system for at least a year or two. We just changed our d system completely as well as added more babies. Theres gonna be nights like this and theres gonna be nights where we obliterate someone we shoupdnt. Strap in, this is gonna be a very turbulent season.
Well said. One game. When the team is as young as this there will be many uneven performances. The season will be roller coaster like.

The overreactions are amazing. A conflation of so many events. Waiting for hockey to finally start. Excitement about Lafreniere. Excitement about young players and vets like Panarin. Then they come out completely flat and not bother showing up. Expectations are crushed. But it is just one game. The youngest team in the league was taken to school by a veteran team with a veteran coach. If this becomes a trend, then there is worry. But one game does not make a trend. And no, what happened during the playoff bubble does not count here.

DeAngelo played that horribly, but if JJ is doing his job, Barzal doesn't get a chance to take that shot. While JJ is jawing with the official, Barzal skates past him, TDA plays the whole situation poorly, and Igor lets up a bad goal. But if JJ keeps his trap shut and just rushes back to defend, Barzal gets smothered.

I watched it again. I kind of disagree. It was a group effort letting Barzal get away. Yes, JJ yapped at the official for a second, but he was back in position by the time Clutterbuck had the puck. Barzal takes off and Laf is slow to pick him up on the back check. Clutterbuck dishes to Barzal who is in full stride and there is no back pressure from Laf. ADA then, out of respect and Barzal coming at him full speed, back tracks and gives him too much room. JJ would have had to move laterally and maybe do a sweep check, or actually turn around and skate forward at an angle to close on Barzal who was full motoring. I don't see how JJ could have "smothered" Barzal in that situation. Barzal found the pocket inside ADA, JJ, Laf, and that guy on the right side of ADA.

Kid is looking more and more like he has no hands to score but at least he used his speed several times to try to create some havoc.
Again, the all looked awful last night, but this has been Gauthier since he arrived. Good speed, but absolutely no offensive ability. While I am not panicking about the rest of the team, I will say that Gauthier should not get too comfortable on the third line.

We didn't have significant turnover either. I guess adding 2 rookies is rough, but it's not like we turned over half the roster.
By that same token, u have fast depart and now u have a whole new system. Lindgren fox will be good, trouba got yet again a new partner. He's not bad, he just doesnt have someone to help him out. Miller was very nervous the first game, like that turnover where he just dished the puck to an isles stick. And honestly, i was ok with marc staal(versus jj) mans just got godly minutes until quinn realized. Look im all for making this team great, but they have not played hockey except for 3 quick exits in the last 6 momths. Offense always takes minute. Dont be surprised if this id a streaky team.

People need to prepare themselves for Quinn being here for the entire season. Unless there is a locker room mutiny or they start the season 0-10, JG isn't a guy who makes decisions quickly. With COVID and everything, I don't think we're going to see many, if any mid season firings across the league

The overreaction to the 4 games over the last 10 months is predictable, but I'd like to know why they're treating games that matter as tune up games. If this is some evil genius lose the battle to win the war shit, no one will remember this game, but it will be much, much harder to overcome a slow start in a season where they're playing 26 games fewer than usual. They did this in the bubble too and they were 3 and out.

And that’s not even his biggest problem. He is not a good defensive player so as you said if he can’t score there’s no way he’s going to stick because he doesn’t defend either

Just a sloppy game by nearly everyone not on the Islanders--the Rangers players, their coaches, the refs, Sam & Joe.

Laf did look good though.

Our shit play in the bubble got us Laf. I was hoping for a quick 3 and out with no major injuries et al. It was a quick turnaround and everything was all kinda confused tbh so I didn’t take it too seriously. This is inexcusible. They knew the situation for months. They had a timeline set. We had training camp. We had an offseason to connect with the organization. And we come out completely flat.

This was a mess. The way they performed is totally unacceptable. I don’t care if they lose. I expected them to lose. But you have to at least put up a serious fight and act like you belong. I expect them to lose Saturday, but I’ll be okay with it if they perform like a relatively competent NHL team.

rooney gets destroyed and concussed.
A few minutes later. Joe and sam saying “the Rangers are missing a player on the bench. Is it Miller? I don’t know who it is but looks like they are missing a player” lol

So just to be clear since we’ve entered Covid Hockey the Rangers have played 4 straight embarrassing Hockey games and have given us zero reason to give them the benefit of the doubt that this was just a stinker

Don't get me wrong, I hear you. But there was a 4 month gap between games 3 and 4.

He got concussed? Shit. I guess it was a short bench stay for PDG. Rooney looked good too.

Maybe I'm off base here, but it seems rather absurd to extrapolate based on 4 games over ten months, when within those ten months everyone's lives have changed dramatically and there's been significant roster changes.

I guess I shouldn't be too harsh because they are getting up there in age.

Back in the studio, Valiquette and Pidto killed it, as usual.

Shesterkin was a major culprit he did last night what lundqvist did so many times. Bad goals early in the game to kill you.

he does not get a pass for yesterday. The 2nd goal being the biggest issue for me. Miller played that perfectly that shot should never beat him and as Valley said I think only 1 did all year like that from him.

like I’ve said from top to bottom it was a joke but the goaltending was awful in the first. He was brilliant from there on which is a strength of his. He doesn’t fold and usually stops the bleeding which I love about him. But that first period was not ok. He’ll sit Saturday because of it
I agreee...I cant see what all the hype is around shesterkin...to me he is average..I am not sold on shesterkin at all

Unless the wheels completely come off the bus, Quinn will be here next year. And by off the bus, I mean that last night's game is the standard for most of the rest of the season. If they battle for the playoffs and narrowly miss, he will be back next year.

Whereas we have seen the rest of the team play better, unfortunately this is exactly the same as Gauthier has done since his arrival. More than willing to give more time, but barring improvements, he may not be long for the lineup.

30 other teams went thru the same thing. Many of those didn’t even play 3 games. (Ps they looked awful in the exhibition game too) we are the by far the most unprepared team. And we knew what to expect because we got the opportunity to play in the bubble. For Quinn to get on the bench and be like this is eery no fans. Move on Quinn get your team ready

Wouldn't be too sure about this.

If they don't take the RIGHT steps (no, competing for a spot doesn't necessarily mean that they took the right steps) I anticipate that they'll make a change. JG's leash for Quinn may be long, but I can assure you that JD's won't be.

By the way quinn will guarantee lafreniere gets no where near a Calder with the lack of pp time.

I get u had a good power play last year don’t want to mess with it. But what’s more important developing lafreniere or giving strome those mins? He’s not the one driving the pp The second unit got next to nothing yesterday and that will continue. Every other star rookie comes in and AT WORST gets top pp time
