I wasn't able to watch the game because I have the app & the NHL doesn't see fit to let me watch games on NHL Network but I digress...

I think when you have a young team, inexperienced team, and a team with turnover... you're going to see this in a shortened season without a proper training camp/pre-season.

It's not good news obv but let's see what happens by game 10 or 20. Yeah that's almost half the season but it's going to take some time.

Just my .02 cents

Agreed, the overreaction in here is mind boggling. We played like what 5 games in like 10 months and people are here thinking we will be back to the offensive firecracker we were last spring in our first game since the bubble.

Anyway, now with a night’s sleep.

yeah they sucked in every way possible. But it’s one game. They’ve started slow before, so overreacting isn’t necessary. At least from me. You guys all do what you do.

But damn Johnson sucks. We knew it when they were going to sign him, after they signed him, during camp. And then he sucked as bad as we knew he would. And he has no hope for improvement.

If you are willing to give the rest of the team a pass then Johnson has to be afforded that too. Im willing to see what he has to offer this team when we get things straightened out, i actually saw some things i liked in his game last night, but the team was so flat everyone outside of Lindgren and Howden stunk including him

The wife and I had a great night planned all rink eats and drinks our new Lafreniere jerseys on, she was rocking some tight red pants everything going my way and after waiting all this time like the bubble these guys come out and play one of if not the worst hockey games top to bottom that I’ve ever seen the Rangers ever play. Kevin Rooney no question was our best player and even he gets concussed half way thru.
The game was awful but I just laughed out loud over this first sentence so thanks haha

I’m tired of the excuses.

DQ needs to go. He never has his team prepared. He didn’t the start of last year, he didn’t during the playoffs, and he didn’t yesterday.

The other teams face the same issues as the Rangers. Why when I watch the other teams play, they don’t seem to have that excuse. What made the Islanders so much more prepared yesterday?

We need an NHL experienced coach that understands how to develop kids.

The way this is going, we will end up calling Kakko, Miller, Chytil, Lafreniere and etc. busts because they were not developed correctly.

I’ll tell everyone saying it’s first game in a long time. I’ve watched a lot of these first games by the other teams including teams that didn’t even play in the bubble and we were by far the worst team that played in the last two days. Not even close. We couldn’t do anything. Even on a couple good looks we’d whiff. We had 2 high danger shots on goal. Ridiculous

2nd overall pick alone in the slot skies it.

Panarin was a joke and if panarin doesn’t play well we all know strome takes the night off completely.

Tony DeAngelo is on 2 posters in his last two games now for getting clowned

Quinn better figure this out because while we’re young this team has WAY to much talent to play games like that. With zero structure zero urgency. And looking completely unprepared again

Agreed. Some people are hitting the panic button waaaaay too quickly. Lots of factors here. Youngest team in the league (even younger than last year's), shortened camp, no pre-season games. Add to that the fact that all have been waiting for so long for hockey to start again and to see the youngsters play, that almost impossible expectations (consciously or subconsciously) were set.

It's one game, people Yes, I realize that they were not prepared to play (that's on Quinn) or to compete (that's on the players). But it's still just one game into the season. Let's give it some time before Quinn is declared unfit for the NHL or Miller a bust. Just one game.

Boys it was one game against the isles. The isles played more, they had no signifcant turnover, and every guy has been playing their system for at least a year or two. We just changed our d system completely as well as added more babies. Theres gonna be nights like this and theres gonna be nights where we obliterate someone we shoupdnt. Strap in, this is gonna be a very turbulent season.

And one more thing about overreactions? This is a team that embarrassed itself in the bubble completely embarrassed themselves.

to come out on game 1 after that? Its becoming a trend more so than it is fans overreacting. Prove you figured out what you did wrong there you’d think. No they look even more unprepared.

Johnson should never play another game for us
Trouba was as bad as last year
His contract will kill us for years
Miller wssnt good but I'll give him a pass
Shesty wasnt good but hopefully first game willies
I was really afraid kakko would ruin our 2nd line chemistry
Only one game but so far my concerns are legit
The kid line showed zero chemistry
I never heard Gautheir's name...
Lindgren still impressive
Zib was getting chances
How played well
Next game will be huge
Looking forward to a bounce back

Gauthier was heard quite often.

We didn't have significant turnover either. I guess adding 2 rookies is rough, but it's not like we turned over half the roster.

everyone adds rookies every year. And one of our rookies is the best rookie coming into the league. They were hardly the problem. As you mentioned this was a team with little turnover. The excuses are inexcusable for this club.

the game went bad in the first minute
a phantom penalty to johnson which gave the islanders an early PP and subsequent goal
why not just let the teams play...alot of ticky tacky calls in this game and mostly to the Rangers

Weird how many people have posted on here for years and probably watched 1000's of games yet don't realize stinkers happen, even for good teams.

I have no idea what this portends for the season, but this year was weird and it's not really telling of anything how the game went last night. We'll see.

I will say, it's a shame the off-season was a cap crunching and less demanding one than usual. We probably could have gotten an enormous haul for TDA in a regular year and despite his offensive skills, I think the guy is just never going to grow up. I'm curious what the locker room thinks of him, because he seems just all around unlikable. Would have been great if we could have off-loaded him.

Shesterkin was a major culprit he did last night what lundqvist did so many times. Bad goals early in the game to kill you.

he does not get a pass for yesterday. The 2nd goal being the biggest issue for me. Miller played that perfectly that shot should never beat him and as Valley said I think only 1 did all year like that from him.

like I’ve said from top to bottom it was a joke but the goaltending was awful in the first. He was brilliant from there on which is a strength of his. He doesn’t fold and usually stops the bleeding which I love about him. But that first period was not ok. He’ll sit Saturday because of it

Sure its one game, but the theme of this team for a while now is not looking engaged at the start of games and giving up early leads.

Its been way too predictable for way too long.

I said it in the build up to the season

I don’t care if we suck or are amazing I just want to watch hockey

well one of those things happened last night so I guess I was partially right

So just to be clear since we’ve entered Covid Hockey the Rangers have played 4 straight embarrassing Hockey games and have given us zero reason to give them the benefit of the doubt that this was just a stinker

It wasn't just a stinker, the Rangers didn't look ready. And that's coming on the heels of a playoff round the team didn't look ready in. Quinn's a huge question mark.

You guys are so negative, I am going to choose to focus on the positives. Georgiev was solid last night.
He will be tomorrow. Up to rest of team to figure out a way to work thru the suffocating Hockey vs islanders
