I'll have to look at the play again. Not saying you're not correct.

DeAngelo played that horribly, but if JJ is doing his job, Barzal doesn't get a chance to take that shot. While JJ is jawing with the official, Barzal skates past him, TDA plays the whole situation poorly, and Igor lets up a bad goal. But if JJ keeps his trap shut and just rushes back to defend, Barzal gets smothered.

Then you haven't been paying attention to how dumb we collectively are.

I don’t think so. If we didn’t look exactly the same during the bubble, I’d be far less concerned. But the fact we showed the same lack of collective effort as we did after the restart, arguably worse tbh, really bugs me. There’s something really wrong when the team collectively doesn’t show up. This was beyond being rusty.

Yeah it's too bad they don't have more than 3 games to figure it out...

You’d think with the entire offseason and training camp that they’d look better than this. It’s not like most teams struggled like this. I get it, we’re young, so I’ll excise the younger players, but there’s no excuse for our older players to play such uninspired hockey.

Woof, you know, I'm all for trashing DQ as he's been shaky and I think the product on the ice is a result of that. A player can have an off night, hell, we can even see the decline of some players at times, so we target some bonehead plays and lack of effort but tonight was a trainwreck - the fish rots from the head down...

but I draw the line at slandering the breadman as some sort of bust.... shame on y'all lol.

They haven't played a game in 6 months. They are absolutely rusty and also unprepared. This team will be a totally different team in a few weeks IMO.

I figured they’d suck and wouldn’t be good to watch. They get off to horrid starts more often than not. This game wasn’t exactly surprising.

Alexis Lafrenière is the best prospect since Connor McDavid to come out of the draft. You cannot compare Kakko to him and have the same expectations.
Dach and Hughes look better than Kakko.

And I would say the best since McDavid, other than Matthews. But it’s not like it’s a stretch to compare Kakko to Lafreniere. Kakko got a TON of hype, was said to be as NHL-ready as they come, AND he’s already played an NHL season (including the playoffs/play-ins where he looked great, so at the very least, he was a mild disappointment tonight). So it’s not like comparing Chytil to Lafreniere.

Look, I do my fair share of it, but why are people bitching about Howden as if he was part of the problem tonight? He played really well on the PK and was good in limited minutes at 5v5. Yes, he needs to have these games more consistently, but give the kid credit when it's due.

Herd immunity, I mean, mentality

I think you’re underestimating how not ready Reunanen, Hajek, Robertson, Kravtsov, Lundkvist, and Barron all are. I mean, half of those guys couldn’t even make THIS waste of a team. I’d be surprised if even two of those guys become good NHL players.
All of those guys would have looked like so out of place. Please let guys like Kravtsov, Lundkvist and Robertson really really develop. Do not drag them into this. No more rushing players. Playing against teams that suffocate you like the Islanders surely doesn't help.

I was critical early last season when Rangers played with little structure. But the team improved so I am still having faith that Quinn knows what he is doing. But I believe that this team have to score a lot of goals to win matches. Outside of Shesterkin there has not been any major upgrade defensively.

. Fair point but neither have the Islanders. Better coaching?? Correction: I forgot the Piles in the playoffs but they still had a long layoff.

Yes I believe it has to do with better coaching and the Piles playing alot more games in the bubble. I also think the Rangers game is predicated on playing fast, pushing the play, and being creatively offensively. The Rangers type of game takes a little longer to find after a long layoff than a team that plays better defense and is more structured. Im not going to overreact to a bad game because I expected it. I also expected their game to get progressively better as the season moves on. I'll start worrying if the still look like crap 10 games into the season. I just don't think they will.

Poor Rooney, none of the beat writers even asked about the poor lad
Total shame. Kid was one of the few with guts to go along the boards and try to win a puck battle. He along with his linemates literally had to the only decent shift of the first period for the team (at the end of the first)

There was a play where, in our D zone at the near boards an Isle player totally wipes out. Two rangers are right there. They both lolligag and the guy on the ice beats both of them to get the puck back. Wasnt even under his body he just lunged for it and got it under control bc our guys were flat out lazy. That play typifies the whole game.

Under AV and Quinn we have no balls, no physicality, no urgency. We're flat and lifeless. It's so frustrating to watch
