Kakko looks like he doesn't care. Either that or his medical issues are hindering him. Why can't we ever get a good draft pick?

One more time peeps

Deal these vets -- Buchnevich, Deangelo, Strome, Georgiev --- for decent value, don't be concerned about top dollar. Just get decent for them.
Eventually replace w/Kravtsov, Nils L, Barron and prob Wall, stopgap G is fine.

Unload JJ + Smith -> never should have been acquired in the first place
for
Stralman + 2021 2nd, would even take 2022 2nd if nec.

Get the deal done.
Cap neutral this season. Add 5m next season [if Stralman sticks] for a 2nd.

Reunanen, Hajek, Robertson are hungry and need playing time.
Use that.

Take it on the chin for growing pains and then with everybody getting decent mins and staying sharp, things will improve.

Sure lets ice an entire team of 21yo's. Who needs any vets? Overrated.

We didn't draft Howden. Chytil definitely took a step forward last year.

If we're going to expand it to players who have made their NHL debuts here, then how about Fox and Lindgren?
Fox and Lindgren had significant experience in other organizations. That's even more of a red flag. Chytil got better last year after getting away from the Rangers. Same pattern.

I'm not trying to be a downer. I like what the front office is doing aside from their grinder fetish which every team has.

I just don't know how you can come to the conclusion that our NHL coaching staff is moving individual players forward at an acceptable level.

I think you’re underestimating how not ready Reunanen, Hajek, Robertson, Kravtsov, Lundkvist, and Barron all are. I mean, half of those guys couldn’t even make THIS waste of a team. I’d be surprised if even two of those guys become good NHL players.

Fox and Lindgren played 0 professional games with other organizations.

It looked like a young, relatively inexperienced team playing a pre-season type game against a mature, structured team that was in the conference finals last year. The game sucked, but taking a small step back from the ledge here is ok with that perspective in mind.

The rookies looked like rookies, they'll be better with more than literally 1 game under their belts.

Lots of guys were invisible or had a poor game (Kakk0, Trouba, TDA, Chytil, Strome), and some guys were just not executing plays I think they typically would (Panarin, Mika, Fox to an extent). Some pretty good games mixed in there as well (Gauthier, 4th line).

Overall, lots of rust from the group, hoping it gets cleaned up over time and they start executing some plays. I expect it to.

I like the progress Miller has made. Miller who has spent every minute of his career not on the Rangers until very recently.

There's that pattern again.

getting some really good quotes to use later in the season from this thread. I know you guys have been starved for hockey for 5 months but the advanced stats charts and graphs after 1 game are pretty comical.

We're just way too young of a team to seriously be expected to compete in a season like this. Been saying it for a while. I wouldn't be surprised if we have a big second half, and I think we can reasonably count on the goaltending to be better than tonight, but two thirds of our top nine are players who haven't established themselves as NHLers at all.

Also, idk what anybody expects out of Trouba. I liked him as a potential #2 next to McDonagh, but an $8million defenseman he has never been and never looked like he was going to be.

I’ve gotta agree. I’ve been watching a ton of games and the Rangers looked the slowest and most listless by a mile. We know it’s not a talent issue, or slow players... so it’s on the coach, IMO.

Maybe Chicago, but compare their talent to yours and the Isles' to TB.

we would have likely picked Zegras if we did not win a lottery, and there is a good chance he will be a better NHL player.

I honestly don't understand why this is so hard for some people to grasp. No lets jump off the ledge after 1 fing game. It's unbelievable.

Johnson should never play another game for us
Trouba was as bad as last year
His contract will kill us for years
Miller wssnt good but I'll give him a pass
Shesty wasnt good but hopefully first game willies
I was really afraid kakko would ruin our 2nd line chemistry
Only one game but so far my concerns are legit
The kid line showed zero chemistry
I never heard Gautheir's name...
Lindgren still impressive
Zib was getting chances
How played well
Next game will be huge
Looking forward to a bounce back
