Alright knuckleheads, it’s time to settle in for the annual goal-fest showdown. As we hit the halfway mark of the season, Leon 'Der deutsche Scharfschütze' Draisaitl is leading the pack with 24 zingers. But wait—Kirill 'острые ощущения' Kaprizov and William 'Stilpoäng' Nylander are breathing down his neck with 23 each. Meanwhile, Brayden Point and Samson Reinhart are lurking like hungry wolves at 22.

Preseason favorite Auston "The Moustache" Matthews is still in the mix (probably too busy perfecting his celly). But let’s be real, if Draisaitl keeps sniping at this rate, Edmonton might just need to invest in a new trophy case.

Prediction? Leon's gonna power-play his way to Rocket glory. But it’s hockey, and if the puck bounces funny, this race could be tighter than a Zamboni schedule in January.

I think Reinhart will take it. Had 57 last year and Matthews isn't a threat this year with his injury. But wouldn't be surprised if Drai or Kaprizov win it either. Only one in the top 5 that would surprise me is Point because he's shooting at an insane 34% right now, doubt that continues to that degree.

I did some calculations based on previous seasons and expected values and my final solution was Drai.

Drai is probably the most likely choice but I’m still hoping for the Ovi injury comeback win to break the record starting on Saturday

Caufield was doing great. Then Laine stole all his goals.

Now my money’s on Laine for the Richard.

:)

Drai will win.

He’s no stranger to finishing high pretty much year after year. He also plays all the games. Last season’s finish at 14th place was the anomaly. 2, 4, 4, 2, 4 were his finishes the prior five seasons.

When he hits 50 again this season, watch out. Suddenly only 11 Hall of Famers will have more career 50 goal seasons.

For the time being, we can keep pretending he won’t be inside the top 25 all-time by the time he hangs them up though.

If the Oilers powerplay starts clicking, Drai should take it. Kaprizov is kind of in the same boat with only 3 PPG on the season so far.

If Drai hits 50, that's 4 plus 50 goal seasons. The most consistant goal scorer outside OV this century. Draisaitl could have 5/6 50+ goal seasons easy when it's all said and done.

Goal scoring isn't even his best hockey skill.

Might as well start calling him King Leon.

OP is hella international!

AM is out for sure. It's probably between Drai and Reinhart. Point's been too lucky with his SH% but who knows if Kuch harnesses all his might to get Point a Rocket and himself another 100+ assist campaign. Iffy about Kaprizov, dunno if the supporting cast is enough for the long haul. Can Hyman still make a contending run?

As of the Christmas break there are 7 players within 3 goals of Drai.
We may have one of the best scoring races for the rocket in years.

It’s kind of surprising how few players have multiple 50 goal seasons. After Ovi’s 9, Draisaitl is the only guy in the last 25 years who has 3.

Awesome writing, thanks!

Oh, and dark horse- I’m goin with the rampaging Tage.

A lot of guys in the race but I think odds-wise you give a slight edge to Draisaitl. Currently in the lead and both he and the Oilers typically have much better 2nd halves than 1st halves.

Edmonton's powerplay has been middling though so that could continue to take goals off the board.
