2019 NHL Draft Rankings 1.0
My first rankings of the 2019 NHL Draft Class, and I try to do 3 each year. If you wanna see some of my mock drafts that I have made you can go to my website right -> here <- I really like a lot of the prospects in this years class, and I hope I helped to let you know about some of my favorites. Sorry if my descriptions aren't great, I'm not very good at them, but I continue to try to do them lol.
1. Jack Hughes C U.S National U18 Team (USDP)
Although I see some people putting Hughes at #2, I still believe he is the best all around player in the draft. Great play-making ability, great hands, and is amazing with the puck on his stick, still the #1 guy in my opinion.
2. Kappo Kakko RW TPS (Liiga)
Kakko is having such a great season that there is a chance he might over-take the 1st position in the draft. Also, he easily has the best name in the draft. Another guy who's good with controlling the puck on his stick and creating good opportunities for his team, and a good defensive player.
3. Arthur Kaliyev LW Hamilton Bulldogs (OHL)
In my opinion, Kaliyev is the best sniper in this draft, now does this mean he's going #3 in the draft? I don't know about that, but I do think he is worthy of being selected this high. An A+ shot, good size, and I just like everything about his game, that's why I have him ranked as the 3rd best prospect in the draft.
4. Bowen Byram LD Vancouver Giants (WHL)
The best defense-man of the draft in my opinion, just an all-around good defense-man who you can have on your power-play or your penalty-kill. Smart with the puck, doesn't make too many mistakes when taking the puck out of the neutral zone, just a solid defense-man.
5. Dylan Cozens C Lethbridge Hurricanes (WHL)
Cozens to me seems like a Cody Glass type of draft pick, a guy who could take awhile to develop until he makes the NHL, but I believe once he gets into the NHL, he'll have a big impact. Great physical center, who could end up being one of the best goal scorers of this draft, but he's also a pretty good play-maker as well.
6. Kirby Dach C Saskatoon Blades (WHL)
Really good physical center or winger, with really good puck skills. I think a good player to compare him to was when Logan Brown was ranked as a top prospect. Though, I think Dach has a far higher ceiling than Brown.
7. Trevor Zegras C U.S National U18 Team (USDP)
A very skilled and great play-making center-man or winger at times. He kinda reminds me of a Clayton Keller, just great at creating opportunities for his team, and he has really good hockey IQ.
8. Alex Turcotte C U.S National U18 Team (USDP)
Due to his injury I have him just dropping out of my Top 5, but I do think once or if he comes back I could see him going higher in my rankings. Another guy who's a really good two-way center, I compare him to a possible Anze Kopitar.
9. Vasili Podkolzin RW SKA-1946 St. Petersburg (MHL)
Having a bit of disappointing season after his amazing performance at Hlinka Gretzky Cup, but I still believe he's one of the best wingers in this draft. Great shot, and really good in all areas on the ice.
10. Alex Newhook LW Victoria Grizzlies (BCHL)
The only weakness I think people see in Newhook's game is that he plays in the BCHL, which to me is a bunch of bologna. Good players can come from the BCHL, and I believe Newhook could end up being the best player coming out of the BCHL. He has great puck skills, and good play-making abilities.
11. Philip Broberg LD AIK (Allsvenskan)
I really like Broberg's defensive game, also his passing ability and creating breakouts for his team. Although since his amazing performance at Hlinka he hasn't looked as good as he did in the tournament, which is understandable, but I still think he has the potential of being one of the best defense-man from this draft.
12. Ryan Suzuki C Barrie Colts (OHL)
Besides Hughes, I think Suzuki has the best passing ability in this draft, his shot probably needs a bit of improving, but his speed, agility, and play-making skills makes him deserving of being a Top 15 prospect.
13. Cam York LD U.S National U18 Team (USDP)
One of the more skilled offensive defense-man in the draft, really good puck moving defense-man. Easily one of the best skaters in this draft.
14. Raphaël Lavoie C Halifax Mooseheads (QMJHL)
Lavoie has good size to his game, and one of the better shots in the draft. Just an all-around good two-way forward.
15. Matthew Boldy LW U.S National U18 Team (USDP)
A very skilled winger, very good speed, play-making, and a pretty good shot. He could easily rise up into my Top 10 if he continues having a great season.
16. Victor Soderstrom RD Brynas IF J20 (SuperElit)
17. Peyton Krebs LW Kootenay Ice (WHL)
