Yeah but i meant the end of the NHL being around just those 3 teams (with Dallas being on the same level between 1997-2000). No doubt that the Red Wings managed to stay competitive after that.
The Chris Drury trade destroyed the team. Lost Forsberg after the cap. Went from having 3 top-six C to just 1.

Why did they trade Drury? Did they just believe they needed another D (Morris) after Bourque retired?
I think Drury asked for too much on his contract extension as well
